The General might have taken his last ride.

The season is over for the Dallas Cowboys and that means they have a lot of decisions to make.

The front office is going to have to decide who they want to pay, who they want to bring in, and who they’re prepared to let go of. One of these decisions could involve veteran linebacker Sean Lee, but The General could make the decision himself if he wanted to.

Judging by a report from The Athletic’s Calvin Watkins it seems like Sean Lee is going to mull over retirement before deciding whether he wants to even play football in 2019.

Lee is entering the final year of his contract with the Cowboys and has long been thought to be someone they could move on from especially after what they saw from Leighton Vander Esch’s rookie season. Perhaps Lee doesn’t want to go through that and might want to take hold of his own destiny by outright retiring.

2018 was technically Lee’s ninth season in the NFL but he of course missed the entire season in 2014. He’s faced lots of injuries but had stellar play that always made him valuable. With his body breaking down once again this past season maybe it really is time to make some decisions.

There will undoubtedly be a lot of petitioning for Lee to ascend to the ranks of the Cowboys coaching staff if he does ultimately retire. It’s worth pointing out that just because he was a great player doesn’t automatically mean he’d make a great coach (or bad one, it’s unpredictable). Whatever Sean Lee’s future holds it does seem like it probably won’t include being a Cowboys linebacker next season, but other than that we’ll have to wait and see.
