Can the Cowboys lock down their third player of the day?

It looks like the Cowboys and free-agent cornerback Patrick Robinson have agreed to a deal in principle, according to Clarence Hill of The Star-Telegram.

Robinson was in Dallas yesterday visiting with the Cowboys, even if the Cowboys top brass was in Boca Raton at the NFL Owners Meeting. But it looks like assistant head coach Rich Bisaccia ably led negotiations that have already landed the Cowboys RB Alfred Morris.

Robinson is the third cornerback the Cowboys have had in for a visit since free agency opened. The Cowboys initially brought in Eagles cornerback Nolan Carroll on March 9, but he left Dallas without a contract. The next day, 2015 starting corner Morris Claiborne signed a new one-year contract with the Cowboys. The Cowboys then brought Leon Hall in for a visit last Tuesday, but he also left Dallas without a contract. And now that a deal with Robinson appears to be imminent, the pressure is on the other 2015 starting corner, Brandon carr, to agree to a deal with the Cowboys, a deal that would likely see him with a lower cap hit for the Cowboys, either via some form of a pay cut or a contract extension at more favorable cost.

A deal with Robinson may or may not be forthcoming today. But if it is, the Cowboys will have gotten three new players in one day, three players that address arguably the biggest holes the Cowboys had on their roster, RB, DE, and CB. That doesn't preclude the Cowboys in any way from drafting players at exactly those three positions, even with their top picks, but it lessens the need to do so.

And that's a good place to be in, even if took 13 days into free agency to get there.
