The Sean Payton rumors continue to swirl with the Cowboys.

Things are changing all around the National Football League with free agency in full effect. We’ve seen massive trades, deals many thought were impossible, and even a big-time quarterback find a new home.

One interesting player that has yet to settle in is Teddy Bridgewater. The former first-round pick most recently played with the New Orleans Saints and it stands to reason that they would like to keep him around with Drew Brees obviously nearing retirement age. While many thought that he would indeed stay in the Big Easy, he’s reportedly visiting with the Miami Dolphins which has some people scratching their heads.

Apparently Teddy’s people might fear Sean Payton is leaving in 2020

If Bridgewater were to become the starting quarterback for New Orleans it wouldn’t happen until next season since Brees is still in town. As that’s the case it would be a decision that Sean Payton would make, unless Sean Payton wasn’t coaching the Saints.

One question with Bridgwater staying in New Orleans on the hope of replacing Drew Brees is there is no guarantee Sean Payton will still be there as coach, per source close to the QB. Those Dallas rumors haven't gone away and they have heard them. So https://t.co/4kC8eFYI6w

Sean Payton has long been connected to the Cowboys as he was once an assistant on their staff under Bill Parcells. His affinity for the area and organization are well-known, but it would be a whole different level of interesting if someone like Bridgewater were to believe that fire could be behind that smoke.

Obviously Jason Garrett is currently the head coach of the Cowboys, but Jerry Jones has been firm that he’s not going to give him a new contract ahead of the last year on Garrett’s old one. Jerry has actually been flipping back and forth on the subject of a Garrett extension since the middle of last season, it does make some sense that the Cowboys might be looking at potential options that aren’t the man who’s led them for almost a decade.

Garrett’s job is on the line this season, he needs to win big to receive another contract. He doesn’t have a first-round pick, and the Cowboys most likely won’t be spending big in free agency, instead saving their money for re-signing/extending their own players that will help the team long-term. That leaves Garrett in a precarious position.

Of course, the Sean Payton rumors are just that, rumors. Until the 2019 season plays out, we won’t know anything for sure.

So is this saying that Teddy is plugged in or is it his agent?

Sean has a similar history as Garrett. Both have coached good to great offenses saddled with a below average defense.

Please do not put Payton and the Clapper in the same sentence...
