The Cowboys head coach held his Wednesday press conference, and wasn’t too forthcoming with information.
There were reports this morning that Tony Romo is past any medical decisions affecting his playing time, it’s now in the hands of the coaches.
Depending upon how he responds to more extensive work in practices this week, Romo could be in uniform for the first time this season when the Cowboys visit the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, barring any physical setback.
A final determination seems unlikely until late in the week.
"That will be a coaching decision,'' a source told ESPN.
That source makes it clear that if Romo doesn’t experience any kind of setback, he could be back in uniform this week. But that’s the call of Jason Garrett, and probably to some extent Jerry and Stephen Jones. If you thought you might get some clarity on Garrett’s thinking in his press conference today, you’d be mistaken. Garrett put on the ultimate Garrett performance. When asked about Romo, in a series of four or five questions, Garrett basically said:
We anticipate him doing what he did last week, do some individual work and then see about taking some scout team work. We just have to see where he is. He’s been involved the last few weeks, starting with individual drills. We’ll take his situation day by day. We anticipate a positive day. He’s worked hard in rehab.
That’s about it.
This week’s opponent, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, weighed-in on the Cowboys quarterback situation.
"When you're just kind of rolling and you're not losing games, it's really hard to kind of change that position especially," Roethlisberger said Wednesday from his locker. "Take nothing away from Tony. He's been doing it at a high level. When you're winning football games, it's really hard to replace that one spot."
In other updates, Ron Leary won’t practice today but they are hopeful he will later this week. Chaz Green might practice some today, they want to see how much he can do.
