The old saying is defense wins championships, and for this Super Bowl, at least, that rings very true.

Going in I was rooting for the Seahawks to win the game basically because I love a dominating defense. But I don't think anyone expected the Seahawks defense to shut down Peyton Manning and the Broncos offense so completely. 43-8? Are you kidding? That was one of the best displays of defensive football I've ever seen and I've watched a lot of football.
The Seahawks we're able to execute the exact formula you need to beat Peyton Manning. The secondary locked up receivers early in their routes and got physical with them while the pass rush was able to get to Manning and keep him off balance. In the end it led to four turnovers for the Broncos with one of the interceptions returned for a touchdown.
Five times now the league's best defense has met the league's best offense in the Super Bowl and four out of five times the defensive team has come out on top. The NFL may be a passing league, and scoring may be up from what it was in the past, but defense still seems to be a key driver in championships. Monte Kiffin wanted the Cowboys to emulate the Seahawks defense and that's a worthy goal. Of course, Dallas has a long way to go to get there.
BTW, early odds for next year's Super Bowl put the Cowboys 40/1.
