Has the Brian Price replacement arrived?

The Dallas Cowboys lost defensive tackle Brian Price during their 28-17 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. They have now acquired more depth at the position, signing Joe Vellano to their practice squad.

The Cowboys are signing DT Joe Vellano to their practice squad via his agent @seanstellato. Could eventually replace Brian Price on roster.

Vellano went undrafted in 2013 out of Maryland. He’s spent time with the New England Patriots (twice), Indianapolis Colts, and most recently the Atlanta Falcons (who the Cowboys coincidentally play this week).

Joe Vellano has been looking for work for a few weeks now, and the Brian Price injury created an opportunity for him in Dallas. The Cowboys need another 1-tech defensive tackle, and many have suggested current practice squad member Lewis Neal to be that guy.

The problem is, Lewis Neal isn’t a traditional 1-tech defensive tackle. Vellano is a practice squad option for now, but perhaps he’s an actual roster one down the road.

We’ll see who the Cowboys promote to their 53-man roster later this week. They have options in terms of how they want to handle the interior of their defensive line. It’s a pity for Price, he had been putting in solid work and the Cowboys run defense had improved.

But for now, welcome aboard Joe Vellano!

He's a 6-2, 300 pound DT, recently from the Falcons and was added to our practice squad.

He's bigger than Neal and likely, better suited to replace Price at 1-tech.

(Undrafted FA, from Maryland.)
