Tony Romo had a fantasy. More precisely, he had a fantasy convention. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback was all set to welcome fantasy football players, sports media, celebrities and athletes to Las Vegas for his first annual fantasy football convention. A noble dream, bringing the unwashed masses into direct contact with their heroes to talk about their obsession, fantasy football. Alas, it's still just a dream as the NFL dropped the hammer on number 9.
NFL has canceled our fantasy football convention this year in Vegas and that is disappointing. I'm sad for the fans and players.

Just plain mean. Why would the NFL do such a thing?
A source told FOX Sports that the league informed the NFL Players Association that the inaugural National Fantasy Football Convention slated for July 10 to 12 in Las Vegas would be in violation of NFL rules by being held at a casino property (the Sands Expo) even though there is no gambling at the center itself.
"Players and NFL personnel may not participate in promotional activities or other appearances at or in connection with events that are held at or sponsored by casinos," an NFL spokesman said in an email statement to FOX Sports.
Sketchy at best. Come on NFL, this was a great thing for athletes and fans. Why couldn't you see your way to finding a loophole and letting this thing happen?
The league was pissed that it didn’t think of doing a fantasy football convention before a player did. The source predicts that the NFL will now get into the fantasy football convention business, holding its own event that will compete with those organized by players and others not connected to the NFL. And the key letters are N, F, and L; only the league can use those in the marketing, promotion, and presentation of a fantasy-football event.
Ha! We should have known. But that won't deter Romo, he's already planning the 2016 fantasy football convention, to be held in Los Angeles.
