A look at the ESPN analysts latest mock draft.
All those mock drafts, ruined by trades. So now that the top two positions in the 2016 NFL draft have been swapped out, we can take a look at a post-trade mock courtesy of ESPN's Todd McShay. Who McShay picks for Dallas probably isn't as important as the "what he's hearing" part. Let's get into it.
The first two picks are Jared Goff to the Rams and Carson Wentz to the Eagles. Those are pretty much set in stone, unless the Rams flip the script and take Wentz first, leaving the Eagles with Goff. This is where it gets interesting. The discussion for the Chargers seems to center around Laremy Tunsil or Jalen Ramsey. McShay hears Ramsey is becoming the guy in San Diego.
3. San Diego Chargers
Jalen Ramsey, DB, Florida State
Protecting Philip Rivers would seem like the bigger priority, so Laremy Tunsil and Ronnie Stanley are distinct possibilities. But I keep hearing Ramsey. Is he a safety? Is he a corner? I don't really care. One of the best pure football players in this class, Ramsey is a true difference-maker. The Chargers have a need at safety, which he could fill, while also contributing as a corner.
If this is true, the Cowboys still may not get a shot at Ramsey even though the top two picks would be quarterbacks. At this point, I think Dallas would seriously look at trading back, hoping someone would want a premium left tackle like Tunsil. But, if there is no dance partner, the Cowboys are left with a choice between the Buckeyes.
4. Dallas Cowboys
Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State
I've heard three names all along with Dallas: Elliott, Ramsey and Joey Bosa. It'd be tough for the Cowboys to pass on Bosa, my No. 1 overall player, but Elliott is a perfect fit to play behind Dallas' elite offensive line. He has the skill set to be an every-down RB from day one.
McShay confirms what most of us have gathered, especially with the top quarterbacks likely off the board, the Cowboys pick at number four, if they stay there, will come down to Ramsey, Elliott and Bosa. In this case, with Ramsey gone, McShay likes Elliott.
