In honor of our new look, we divulge the birth of our fandom.

Welcome to the refreshed The Falcoholic! To celebrate the new look and feel of our sports communities at SB Nation, we’re sharing stories of how and why we became fans of our favorite teams. If you’d like to share your story, head over to the FanPosts to write your own post. Each FanPost will be entered into a drawing to win a $500 Fanatics gift card. We’re collecting all of the stories here and featuring the best ones across our network as well. Come Fan With Us!

As you can see, our parent company SB Nation has done a refresh of the look of our site. Not much has changed structurally, just the cosmetics. We know that change can be hard to digest sometimes, but give it a little time and all will be well. If you would like a little more information on these changes, you can go here.

In the meantime, to celebrate our mini-rebirth here, we decided to discuss the birth of our fandom, and we're asking everybody to do the same by creating your own FanPost on what made you become a Cowboys fan. I urge you to do this, because there is a contest and you could win a prize. Details on that can be found here.

Here is my personal story of how I became a Cowboys fan.

Back when I was just a wee lad, on January 16, 1972 (yes I'm old, no jokes!), I watched the Cowboys play the Dolphins in a Super Bowl. I don't remember anything about the game, I just remember that helmet with the star on it. I thought that was the coolest thing in the world. Ever since then, no matter where I lived or who I met, I was a Cowboys fan. I've lived and died with the team through the good times in the 70s, and the great times in the early 90s, but I've also endured the terrible times like the late 80s. I cheered when Butch Johnson made his circus catch in the Super Bowl, and cried when Jackie Smith dropped a sure touchdown. I had to throw a few things when Dwight Clark made The Catch, but got my revenge when the Triplets ruled.

Never in all that time have I lost my passion for the Cowboys.

What's even better is that some of my family members are fans of Washington and the New York Giants. That makes for great holiday get-togethers. Of course, as is appropriate, nobody in my family likes the Eagles!

Okay, that's it for me, now over to you. Head over to the FanPosts and tell us your story of how you became a Cowboys fan. You may win a prize in our contest.
