REPORT: BUCS WILL TAG BRYANT

Posted by Mike Florio on February 18, 2009, 10:35 a.m.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to apply the franchise tag to receiver Antonio Bryant by Thursday’s 4:00 p.m. EST deadline.

Our guess is that he’ll promptly sign the one-year offer of $9.488 million, which will make the money fully guaranteed.

Bryant, out of football in 2007, resurrected his career with a strong season in Tampa — including one of the best catches we’ve ever seen.

He put up nice numbers , but his QB's were never afraid to give him a chance to make a play.

AB has to be the #1 WR or he loses interest and becomes sloppy

I still like AB.

Pretty much every talented WR is a prima-donna. It is a fact of life.

I bet all the sports writers in Tampa are pissed. Every year writers got to recycle the same old "Bryant is committed to changing" story. Just copy the text from Dallas Morning News, SF Chronicle, or Cleveland Plain-Dealer and change the date. Now they actually have to do some real reporting. Poor saps

Kid's a gamer, could have been great for us if we found a way to make it work.

Giving someone like AB over $9 mil could be like pouring gas on a fire.

5 minutes after the check clears it will be party time.

10 minutes after the check clears the Tampa Police will get a call about him.

15 minutes after the check clears there will be at least 3 paternity suits filed.

Thank you Bill Parcells, Keyshawn Johnson and Terry Glenn. If it weren't for you bringing all those SB Victories to us AND TO, I don't think I could ever forgive the 3 of you.

Fact is, regardless how "immature" AB may have been, he should have been our #1 since his second season. His job was shamelessly stolen by Parcells and his over the hill retreads he kept bringing in. And I mean really, in hindsight, did Key or Terry, really bring us more than he could have? All they really did was create the glaring need at the position for us to go out and sign someone like TO. But with AB, a TO signing probably never happens- not too mention the lop-sided trade against us that is currently Roy Williams.

And IMO it doesn't take AB nearly this long to come into his own if he stays with us. We lost because we took the advice of an ex-Giant that an ex-Jet and an ex-Patriot was a better option, despite their long teeth and limping runs. But hey, at least we coddled him and gave him his necessary blankies. And it paid off for us so well in the end.

Or finally legitimizing in his own mind what his worth actually is, making the rest history.

And the last I checked, every man in this world was a kid at some point. Most without a million dollars thrown in their youthful faces also. Stop crucifying him for the "better man" you don't even have the opportunity under the same circumstances to prove that you are. It's called a "soap box". You're standing on it. And for him, it's called a National Football League field he's standing on, and formally one with a star painted on it too boot.

I don't know about you but I think Terry Glenn played his best football in Dallas. He ran great routes, and before he got hurt was still able to stretch the field. Bledsoe's career lasted a few extra years because of TG, he's exactly the type of receiver that our offense needs to compensate for our long striders.

Fact is AB is on his fourth team for a reason. If Parcells was so wrong, then he would've stuck at any of his previous stops.

Good luck to AB, but it's not like he's been tearing up the league since he got traded from the 'boys.

10 million dollar talent, with HISTORICALLY a ten cent head. I hope he's turned it around, but getting all this money...........we'll see.
