The "home grown" arguement is for baseball....not football, where there is a hard cap in place. It is specifically for schmos who want to give Yakuza a hard time about being a Yanks fan...when in reality the yanks have a pretty large amount of "home grown" talent.

I appreciate the comments, but I believe homegrown is very important football because of the cap. I believe homegrown talent in football costs less than getting FA's. So if you get a lot of FA's, something has to give cap-wise and that usually means the backups are less. Backups in football are far more important than backups in baseball and trades happen all of the time in baseball. As far as the Yankees go, they've been burned on many trades over the years where they sent a quality prospect elsewhere and saw the player blossom into a great player. Fred McGriff is a prime example. I really don't care that much either way, I just find it real hypocritical when Red Sox, Mets and Braves fans complain about it.

I definitely understand the importance of building through the draft, especially for quality depth at a cheap cost. My only point was that the "homegrown" argument is typically used in baseball and not football and the reason being is that large market teams such as the Yankees and sox have a major advantage in their abilities to spend cash. Whereas in the NFL every team is given the same amount of cap space.
