I realize they both play OLB but which one would you start over Barbie Carpenter? Williams will be back next year and Barbie will be long gone but this drives me nuts right now. It's attention to detail, the fine little details that we seem to over look. Get your best players on the field so we can have that much more of an edge. Rocket freaken science I know..:banghead:

Anyways I think Butler is a little faster than Octavien but I'm not sure. They both make plays when given the chance so it would be a huge upgrade either way....

I think Octavien would be better in coverage but obviously Butler is the better pass rusher.

In actuality, weren't both brought in for approximately the same reason...to provide outside pass rushing ability to the backup areas?

The largest difference here, is that Butler has mad actual plays in real field conditions during the game. From hand down to hand up, requires a little adjustment at the NFL level. That is all that seperates abilities in coverage between the two...identification during play development.

Personally, I dont understand why Butler isnt getting more reps. That is one of the biggest anomoloies of the season for me.

Just when do you suppose that he be inserted for either Anthony Spencer or DeMarcus Ware?

Ya because Spencer is reaking havoc on the the other side of Ware right?

Absolutly no reason why Butler shouldn't be getting the third down pass rush snaps.

Spencer had his chance. He sucks at rushing the passer.

Case closed.

First, one has to present a case...

and to say Spencer hasn't been a noticeable influence on the strongside of the defense, would be to admit NOT having watched any Cowboy games....pessimist or not.

Spencer has been playing pretty well. He's getting pressure just not sacks and is great in coverage.

Dallas has a good problem at LB.

And I believe the OP was talking about which would start over Carpenter?

Butler by the way.

The answer to that is neither unless they change positions

Octavien is a special teams player. I would hate to see him starting for the Cowboys. He may have made a play or two against scrubs in pre season, but he is not a legit NFL, 3-4 OLB. The only reason that Octavien is active is because he is a better special teamer than Cujo, not because he is a better OLB.

As for replacing Barbie, that is what our top draft choice in this last draft was brought here to do.

Yes and he's out for the season so either of the two previously mentioned would be an upgrade over Barbie...

He's not out for the season, he's just not been active for any of the games.

Are we talking about Brandon or Jason Williams? I always get those two confused since I never see or hear from either one...:bang2:

As much as I dislike Carpenter, I do not start either of those guys ahead of him at nickel LB.

I think Hodge will take the nickel LB spot next season, and Jason Williams will back up both ILB spots.
