If we get down to the last Receiver spot I'm sorry we have to keep Byrd even at the expense of
Cole Beasley. I really believe Byrd can do anything that Beasley can but with better size if he
was forced into a starting role with a Dez or Williams injury Byrd has the size and ability to start on the outside where Beasley is strictly a slot Receiver. In my view Byrd looks very good and should be a keeper.

I agree. I don't see what is special about Beasley.

Beasley has that amazing short area quickness and I think he is well liked by Garrett and Romo. From what I am hearing, there is no way we go Byrd over Beasley. Either we keep 6 WRs or Byrd is kind IMO. I would like to see us keep Byrd however (just not over Bease).

With the NFL expanding the PS to 10 players, they should allow teams to designate 2 players directly to the PS, bypassing waivers, BUT those two players would not be allowed to be called up during the regular season. IMO it's a fair trade off to keep that guy that you want to develop but can't keep on the 53man roster.

From Machota (Sportsday)

4.) LaRon Byrd has been one of the Cowboys’ top five wide receivers throughout training camp and the preseason. He had four catches for a team-high 57 yards Thursday night. Dallas will likely only keep five receivers. But he might be the odd man out. Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley, Dwayne Harris and fifth-round pick Devin Street are probably ahead of him. If the Cowboys release Byrd, I’d be surprised if another team didn’t scoop him up.

I like Beasley a whole lot I don't want him cut. I do agree about Byrd though. I think this kid has something and I'd like to see us keep him.

Yes, let's cut Cole Beasley. He's short, he small and he doesn't play STs. His hair is too long and he is a one dimensional player. Blah blah blah….

I highly doubt our little chain mover gets cut, but I think you are right at the same time.

I would dump dwyane harris over beasley. Beasley produces and I would rather find somebody else as a return person on punts...

Don't forget, "he's a quitter."

After all, guys with 70+% catch rates who convert 3rd downs the way he does grow on trees.

please don't drink and post. i would love to keep byrd but the odds are he want even be active for games. so you want to cut our best kick cover guy and one of the leagues top return guys for a guy who i think everyone likes but is not going to be active for more than a few games barring injury

I like Byrd. He has some great size and is a good athlete. He clearly takes the game seriously and works at it. He looks very consistent and precise in his route running and that is how you set up counters. Solid hands and body control. He helps on special teams. If they keep Byrd it is likely at the expense of Clutts and he would likely be active for ST.

If anyone should be beat out it should be Street. Byrd looks better than Street right now. Problem is Street is a rookie and this is year 3 for Byrd. Byrd is more or less what he is at this point and Street should improve particularly with his poor physique. That being said if a starter goes down tomorrow, Byrd is the best option to replace him on the roster.

Beasley has elite short area quickness. He has a sick hesitation counter that he uses off the line and most covers are going to have to guess or end up with broken ankles. The hope is that they get him in some matchup advantage as teams try to deal with Witten and Dez. He makes LB look a bit silly.
