How would everyone feel if the commissioner steps up to the podium and announces "With the 22nd pick in the 2007 NFL Draft the Dallas Cowboys select California running back Marshawn Lynch."??????????????

Just thought I'd throw that out there because from everything I am hearing and reading that just might be where Dallas is heading.

At 22 I would say it was a good pick.

I would frown and say that we probably could have gotten better value in the late second by drafting Kenny Irons.

I would be ecstatic. He's a consensus Top 15 pick around the NFL according to Goose and he fell to #22. I would be happy if we moved up to 14-15 and took him. I don't know why anyone wouldn't be happy with it, unless it means they'll have to sell their $75 Julius Jones jersey in a garage sale for $5.

I guess that would mean that we moved Julius for a pick.

Not against Lynch at #22 at all, but him, Jones and Barber make for a crowded backfield.

And this is where my only issue with going Lynch is.

i would just rather see us use our 1st rounder at a position where we need depth, or soon need a replacement due to age, or whatever.

Going with Lynch would mean that we are making a pick with the thought of making a trade with Julius soon after.

I would almost rather do that later in the draft, rather than a 1st round pick.

But that's just my opinion

I would Cowboys fan commit suicide for the season. That would be an absolute moronic choice. I don't care what anyone says. Lynch is a low second round choice. He isn't special, he just better than everyone except Peterson whom is first round material.

That would be fine if he fell to #22. Then trade JJ for a 2nd and then we'd have two 2nds and a third, plus Lynch. I'm all for taking him IF he falls to us, but not for trading up and getting him. There isn't much of an advantage for us to trade up to get a RB unless it is AP.

I take it some of you never watched Lynch play, which is understandable since nobody really watches west coast games unless its USC. There's a reason why he's a consensus Top 15 pick by NFL front offices. He was aruguably as good at Cal as Steven Jackson was at Oregon State. His junior year, he was merely great. He was even better his sophomore year. You're talking about someone who has a career 6.6 ypc in college (Steven Jackson only averaged 4.8 playing in the same conference), and he was a DYNAMIC pass catcher out of the backfield. I'm not talking about catching screens or swing pases. I'm talking about someone who could motion out wide as a WR and completely turn cornerbacks inside out with his route running.

I've seem him play, and I've seen his highlight clips. I'm not saying he is garbage, I'm just saying he isn't worth a first rounder when there is several other positions I think have better talent and not only that we have more need for than running back. I think the Cowboys taking Lynch and #22 is absolutely foolish.

Its not complicated. Lynch is a Top 15 talent by anyone who actually does this for a living, and RB is as big of a need as any on this team. What we have now is average, and even Mr. Average is walking out the door after this season.

While you can find "servicable" RB's like Julius Jones in the mid rounds, you generally have to take elite RB's high in the draft. Star runningbacks touch the ball 25-30 times a game in carries and receptions combined. Star WR's only touch the ball 5-6 times a game. The only other position on the offense more important than RB is QB, because they touch the ball every snap. You only get a finite amount of offensive snaps a game. In other words, every single offensive snap is a precious and rare commodity that every team should take advantage of because you only get so many. For the life of me, I'll never ever understand why some people are content with giving away HALF of our finite, rare, precious offensive snaps per game handing them off to a "servicable" RB. It's playing with one arm behind your back.

I actually haven't seen Lynch play, but if he's there at 22, you gotta take him. If we talk all this 'best player' crap then we have to live up to it.

Plus, I don't think Julius--as much as I like him and as many excuses as we make for him--will ever be better than last season

I'd take him in a second at 22. Will he make it to 22 probably not, but there is a chance. This years running back group reminds me of 1999. Peterson/Ricky Williams, Lynch/Edge. While Peterson has all the hype, all that speed and power, I think Lynch could be the better pro. He has shown to be more durable, runs more compact, and has a bit more wiggle than Peterson. He's also proved to be an outstanding reciever, something very valuable in the pro game. Never seen him play here are some highlights:

Jerry wants a starter with the 22nd pick- check
Jerry wants a Wow guy- check
Jerry prefers offense if possible- check

Now i'm not hating on Peterson, he is still the top ranked RB this year, but what is better value giving up your entire first day for Peterson or getting Lynch at 22? I'd say easily Lynch at 22. And i'm not hating on JJ either, i'm not in the we must get rid of JJ crowd, he's solid and does what he does. But I think Lynch is an upgrade at RB from day 1 of camp, can you say that about anybody else we might get at 22?

InmanRoshi,

We also have aging cornors, aging receivers, an aging/injured OLB in Ellis, LT thats probably gone after next season. We also have 3 young running backs who will perform better next season with a better offensive line. Believe me (read all my posts!) I'm NOT a Julius Jones fan at all, but it's clear as day to me. RB isn't even in the top three needs of this team, and there is plenty of talent on the board.

A plan fact of the NFL and running backs is this. If your line stinks, it doesn't matter who your running back is; He will stink it up also.

Lynch will not dominate this league. If he lands with a team that has a great line, he will produce. If he doesn't; he will get tagged with the term bust if he goes in the top 15.

Frank Gore produced over 2100 total yards running behind a guy who was starting in the Arena Football League the year before and this...

Steven Jackson led the league in total yards last year, and the St. Louis offensive line was nothing more than adequate.

Meanwhile, it doesn't matter how good your offensive line is, if your RB is average your running game is going to be average. We had arguably the best OL in the history of the NFL in the mid-late 90's. How good did they make Derrick Lassic look? How good did they make Sherman Williams look?

We disagree here. Lynch is no "WOW" player. He is only a good player.

Well that is a matter of opinion. I think he's a WOW player. I think he'll prove you wrong on Sundays. Who knows what Jerry thinks, and thats all that really matters.
