The hiring of Bill Callahan as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach is a positive step in the right direction. Callahan's West Coast roots and proven success and experience should give the Cowboys offense a positive infusion of West Coast principles and ideas to draw upon. Furthermore, Callahan is one of the best offensive line coaches in the NFL, and his rushing attacks have been among the best in the NFL.

I'm not against Callahan having game plan input; I'm against deceptive titles. I'm glad that a similar arrangement is working out for GB, but that guy ain't a real OC either.



I don't, but the only way to know for sure is to get on with the process.

I prefer Callahan calling plays. They both can design the game plan, but let the OC call the plays. Now if Garrett want's to go for it and wants a run instead of a pass, let Callahan decide what run/formation to use.

This also takes pressure off of Garrett is SO many different ways, he just needs to focus on being a good Head Coach for now, and not playing God.

I'm pretty sure that was still Gruden's offense they were running that year for the most part. Gruden in fact used his knowledge of the offense against Oakland in that Super Bowl.

Hey, it can only help. Even if Callahan is only putting together the gameplan, it takes a load off of Garrett and adds some different things perhaps to the offense.

Callahan was Gruden's O.C. during his entire tenure in Oakland. Callahan had to have some kind of influence on that offense.

Beats me, but he's not an unknown entity as a play caller at this point in his career. And as HC he has a ton more duties and obligations on top of that.

Callahan's wisdom and input are valuable but yes, the title is unnecessary and undeserved.

Is Jerry still the owner/GM? That answers your question. Other teams win championships, whereas we have "hope."

I wasn't really that impressed with him as a play caller in Oakland or at Nebraska. He appeared to be just as pass-happy as Garrett is.

I'd actually prefer Garrett calling plays over him, so I'm kind of glad that's not changing.

I don't think we'll see Callahan's offense on Sundays. I think we'll see Garrett's with some tweaks by Callahan, probably mostly concerning offensive line blocking schemes.

I could be wrong about that, but I don't think Garrett fully gives up an offense that consistently ranks near the top of the league. Seems to me he is at least using critical thinking to evaluate that there are things about it that could be better. That's a good thing.

Could be Callahan had some suggestions about our red zone offense that Garrett liked.

I agree with this.

There is no way we make wholesale changes to an offense that Romo knows like the back of his hand and has grown up with as an NFL QB.

Each offense changes a bit every year and I'm sure Callahan/Robinson will bring in influences and that will intermingle with Garrett's ideas to produce a very excellent Cowboys offense in 2012.

I am very excited about Callahan and his resume for coaching OL and producing excellent offenses that can both run and pass. Garrett's offense is supposed to be balanced by design and this guy will be a good influence. He will probably be a guy up in the booth reminding Garrett to keep mixing in the run when he gets too pass happy.
