I'm not sure awareness has much to do with it. Most players wouldn't be aware of a guy coming from 30 yards away, making a beeline for them while their back is turned.

Additionally, the rules protect players from those hits so you're basically saying he should be aware that someone might clean his clock with an illegal block.

He could come from 3,000 yards away.. it doesn't really matter. If he had his head on a swivel, he had a chance to notice Lawrence closing in on him.

If you don't have awareness in this league.. that is what happens.. sometimes even if you are fairly aware.

Look what happened to Sherman tonight. Didn't notice Fitz coming in on him, and he got his clock cleaned.

Its a clean, hard football play.. nothing dirty about it. Sherman got up and gave Fitz a slap on the helmet right away because he's a football player.. not a little girl.

Whether or not anyone likes the hit, it's a textbook example of the type of hit that is prohibited.

fine.

if this was a 7 year vet i'd get more upset. this is a 1st game player who's got a lot to learn.

and that book changes yearly,

what's his #? i want a cam lawrence jersey!

not saying he didn't mess up. saying he got called up a day or two before the game and his emotions were running high. if you were young, an UDFA and were playing for a team like the cowboys, is technique on your mind?

i love this guys heart. i tire of hearing how our players are emotionless yet when emotion hits, they should be mechcanical.

one size does NOT fit all.

It wouldn't have been a blindside hit if the guy had some awareness of his surroundings.

Again, come on now. Its football. "Set a basketball pick?" Good Lord..

Lmao re -reading my comment it does sound dumb as hell. Don't blame me, i was sleepy

Here's my question: does anybody know if teammates are allowed to help pay another player's fine? For instance, if Romo wanted to pay Lawrence's fine for him, would that be within the rules? At the very least, I'd think the highest payed players would be willing to join together and take care of a fine like this for the lowest paid guys. Heck, Romo's real estate taxes per month are probably higher than Lawrence's fine.

Easy. Lawrence pay's $21,000 fine. Later, Romo adds $21,000 to Lawrence's bank account. No biggie. So Romo didn't pay the fine, but Lawrence.

I had trouble seeing Harris at first...but, he is that blur that is zipping through the Commanders coverage....good times

and, here is how I see the fine being paid

(outside of Cam's apartment/residence around 3:00am)
knock. knock, knock
(steps are heard running away quickly, a squeak is heard as he opens his door)
He steps outside, looks around and says to no one "hello? anyone there?"
he shrugs when no one answers and returns back through his doorway, tripping over a paper bag
"Hmm, what's this?"
he opens the bag and $26k is in the bag with a note saying "$21k for the fine and the rest, just because....keep up the good work"

so basically you're saying a UDFA in his first game in the NFL shouldn't make a mistake.

i won't get into the fine, the play, the hit, but to start digging this deep into the player...so early on???

i like the player. i want a LAWRENCE jersey.

just love the intensity he brings and yes, he will grow up. just don't expected him to be a vet yet, but he will be.

Yeah, it's just unfortunate - a clean hustle attempt with a costly outcome, but I bet the hit along with the play of Harris has invigorated the special teams guys.

I CAN'T SEE IT, THIS IS FOOTBALL. WERE TALKING KICKOFF AND PUNT RETURNS, THEIR ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HITS ON RETURNS. THIS IS NOT DANCING WITH THE STARS. THE NFL IS GOING TO RUIN THE GAME GOING OVERBOARD WITH THESE FINES.

I'm really starting to dislike the NFL more and more every year. 21k is a ridiculous amount to fine a borderline PS/active roster player. They need to take into account his low salary and the fact that it was his first game.

The fine will be reduced because it is too high given his salary under the cba. But the fine guys want to create a record

It will get appealed reduced automatically to some percentage (I think 40-50%) of his game check. Merton Hanks and the league just wanted it on record that the hit was a serious fine.

What makes the Tate more malicious?

Well, I can't put my finger on it... just to me, it looked like he lined Lee up for the sucker punch more than Lawrence did Amerson.

However, to be honest, you can't really see Lawrence and what he's doing as far as lining him up.

So, I could be wrong.

Cleaner than the hit Tate put on Lee last season...I don't believe he was fined.

I remember that and it got me thinking. Its funny how refs can miss something so obvious - yet when it comes to us, somethings they will call anything and everything.

Does anyone know his salary? 21k has got to be a big chunk of what he makes.

I'm not sure anyone is upset at Lawrence. I'm certainly not upset at him.

People appear to be upset by the fine

Mid 300K is the minimum, I think. 340K sounds right but not sure. That would put his weekly salary at $21,250 so maybe they just took a game check from him.

Still a lot of money considering. He won't starve to death, but not getting paid for a week would hurt most people in this country.

Plus, roster bubble guys have to worry about the idea of getting cut at any given moment and not making another NFL paycheck again. They need all the game checks they can get.
