Can a First Rounder Supplant Kosier?

When looking at our first rounder next month it is coming clear it has to be a WR or CB. I can't see JJ taking a backup O-lineman in the first round. Thus, the question... is Grubbs, Sears, Blaylock good enough to beat Kosier out at LG? I think Kosier is good, not great and his versatility would make him a valuable reserve. Any thoughts on these guys? How good are they?

i dont know why so many people dont like him. I thought he did a good job last year. probably the most consistent lineman we had. A few bad plays but all linemen have em..

Teague31's train of thought is short a few box-cars when it comes to this thread.

Kosier did fine last year. He gave us the best LG play we've had in a few seasons.

I will never feel confident when a 300 pound guard has a tendacy to get pushed around by guys he outweighs by 50+ pounds. I still can't fathom how he managed to get trucked by 232 pound Lamar Marshall.

Larry Allen circa 2004 was better than Kosier last year.

A slow arse guard who can bulldoze any defensive payer in the league is more valuable than a quick, agile guard who is fairly weak for his position. What good is being able to pull effectively on a sweep if you can't block the defender when you get there?

I think its possible that by midseason a 1st or 2nd OG could replace Kosier but its not likely and I'm not saying I even want to take a guard that early. I think Proctor and Berger can provide decent depth. We need a backup center and I think that will come later in FA or somewhere between the 3rd and 6th round of the draft.

If a first round guard is picked.. Kosier probably by next year would be replaced.

Not saying he would be released (his cap figure isn't unmanageable) but he would be 2nd string. Now if a tackle is picked then he might stay as that tackle will be Flo's replacement if Leonard Davis is deemed 'Too Slow footed' for LT.

I did see him getting beat by faster, stronger O linemen and all and all inconsistent.

I hope he does have a good training camp and a better year.:)

there goes HH w/ his LA man-love

HH, your bruises heal yet from the last LA discussion?

There's nothing to heal. Larry Allen, despite his flaws, was still one of the strongest men on the planet and was an excellant interior blocker. Yes, he had trouble operating in space, but at least I ddint have to worry about him getting blown up on inside run plays.

Had we kept him and not signed Kosier, we would have been no worse off on the O-Line. Allen can't pull very well, and Kosier can't block very well once he does pull. At leats Allen can still put a hat on a hat fairly regularly.

Oh, and obsession duley noted

all I know is we could half way run a decent screen play with Kosier. We also had a guard who could pull on a running play. That had been missing the last few years with the great LA.

that's funny, since we IMPROVED on runs to the left-side w/ Kosier

The Leonard Davis signing makes it so that we don't have to go after a guard in the first round (provided Davis plays reasonably well) and if they do take a guard, it's because it's a player they are really high on.

Kosier's problem last year was pass protection, but it was almost solely due to having troubles recognizing blitzes and stunts instead of being a physical capability thing. I *think* that with one year under his belt he's likely to get better at that part and have a very good season.

Yes, I'm sure those running improvements had NOTHING to do with Flo being back, right? Your tendacy to pick and choose parts of an arguement that fit your delusional mindset is getting old.

And it is very sad that everytime your point begins to fall apart, you resort to "30 yard slant". Not that yuo have much else, but you could at least put up some sort of fight.

I'm just picking and choosing the very fallous parts that unravels your whole argument

again, by my picking and choosing, I just destroyed your argument

adding your signature line, which showcases the type of poster you are, one that follows very little logic, and doesn't know what he's talking about half the time, was just for effect

Hey, if you can claim it was all LA's fault that we werent running well, then I can claim it was all Flo's doing that we started running better to that side.

See how much easier it is to argue when you conviently use only the aspects of an arguement that suite your point of view?

I figured if I threw out the bait you wouldnt be able to resist walking into the trap. And I was right.

I'm just picking and choosing the very fallous parts that unravels your whole argument

Whoops :lmao:

Can't. Breathe.

:laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

There was no arguement. It was a setup, an attempt to get you to incriminate yourself. You ALWAYS pick and choose what you are going to use from the national bank of facts and only use those that suite your ideals. Arguments don't hold up that way. Hopefully you will learn from this.
