Can Brandon Carr Cover Anyone?

Seriously. Game after game, I see him trailing every single receiver that runs across the field. Or just runs by him. It took all of 2 plays today to see this. As Carr was chasing a 49er WR across the field for a long drag route that went a long ways. And we all saw what Calvin Johnson did to him last year.

I heard nothing but "oh, we are now going to play man, that is their strength" in the offseason. Well, it doesn't seem to work, either.

2012 offseason seems to be a disaster. Wasting draft picks on Mo and giving Carr a huge contract. I see why KC wanted no part of him anymore.

But at least they made up the cute No Fly Zone nickname before they even played a down. That was fun.

I will repeat this again. The underneath coverage was setting up too deep in their drops and were allowing underneath routes too easily. The CB improved in the 2nd half.

The Tampa kiffin experiment was ill advised. I'll be happy when it's over.

I also think a lot of this is a product of a lot of our starters just coasting through training camp and preseason.

Over the past 17 games or so -- on Carr's best days he is mediocre and on his worst days he is embarrassingly bad.

I'm not sure he has ever recovered from being the primary CB covering Megatron when Megatron when off for 14 catches / 329 yards last season against the Cowboys.

Missing basically all of training camp only adds to his woes.

Save for a couple of guys in the NFL...most people with a REAL knowledge of the game understand that the term "shutdown CB" is a myth. And more importantly...the scouts, coaches and players know this too. Richard Sherman was avoided the other night....because throwing at him is risky business. Carr was NOT avoided, because he is nothing special.

90% of the CBs in this league need a pass rush to maximize their effectiveness....Brandon Carr falls in this category. All of us look like experts in hindsight....but let's ask ourselves "what team lets a 50m CB walk"? I mean the Seahawks would not let Richard Sherman walk! Like I have said over and over again...the Cowboys simply collect "talent" with very little thought on how they fit or how they will be used. But this is what happens when you have loose direction or ever changing direction. I won't derail this thread....but think about all the 2nd round picks we have used on BACKUP TEs!!!!! At a time when we would REFUSE to use premium picks on OL or DL!!!! At least if these TEs were actually marginal contributors....it would be a little easier to swallow. But again....it just looks like "collecting" talent!!!
