Can we afford to keep our talent?

Looking at our roster, we have tons of talent and lots of money tied up in players. Is it possible to afford this many players being paid premium dollar at their positions? Saying if we extend Ware, Newman, Hamlin, and Barber

Offense

Romo - top 10 money
Barber- top 10 money
TO - top 5 money
Flo - top 10 money
BIG - top 10 money
Witten - top 10 money

Defense

Ware - top 5 money
Newman - top 5 money
Roy - top 10 money
Hamlin - top 5 money

Thats alot of money tied up into 10 players. That also doesn't include a possible new contracts for possible additions like Roy Williams or a trade for McFadden (highly unlikely).

You have teams like Detroit and Arizona saying they can't afford to keep two high priced WR's, yet we'll find a way to?

No, like every other good team, we're going to have to make some very hard decisions and some good players are going to have to be released.

Then who off that list, beside everyone's favorite whooping dog (#31/38) is someone that is expendable? I'd say in two years Flo might be gone, but not sure of whom else.

Hamlin will probably not be signed. RW will be released next year to save cap dollars. Some contracts are going to have to be reworked to free up cap dollars but I think Jerry will get most of the good players signed longterm.

Good teams find ways to replace good players (Pats, Colts)

The key to our team, is not so much keeping our talent, but being able to replace our talent.

Alot will depend on how we do in this draft. If we find some starting corners, Newman becomes expendable. If we find a starting FS, Hamlin can go.

It's very important that we continue to draft well. Otherwise, the talent will erode because we can't afford to sign our players, or we will re-sign them and destroy our cap situation putting off money for the future.

Maybe, but I love the idea of having Newman and Pacman together for the next four years. Talk about the best pair of corners in the league.

I believe that Henry's contract is up in 2009. If that is the case, might the decision be to cut him next offseason and use his cap cash to resign Newman?

Why cut him, when he can play out his contract?

yeah thats a great idea, and who are you going to replace one of the top 3 corners in the league with in a secondary that already struggles at times...oh yeah pacman...except he has not played in a year and he is not even eligible to play this year yet so we really don't know what we have there...well maybe we can draft someone...ok so what are we going to do until that someone develops, which is going to take at least a couple years if not more and if they are not a bust, a lot of ifs. On top of that our secondary is THIN to begin with its not a position where you want to be going and cutting one of the best players in the league even if we get pacman and or a draft, we will still be thin there if Newman is cut....

how about we tell Marion that he is (more likely his agent) insane for wanting that kind of money for a back that can not carry the load by himself and tell him if he wants to play here then he is going to have to back down...if not see ya! I'll be happy when people start to realize Barber is not that good, yes I love his heart, but if people were judged and payed for how much heart they play with I would be in the hall of fame.

Nope we won't keep them all. It's just not possible. That's the nature of the business.

I think we can, only player that i see not making it is roy williams, i have heard that the cowboys are strongly looking at safety phillips from miami and tyrell johnson, who is 6-0 207 with 4.43 in 40. He kinda reminds me of a young darren woodson, whereas phillips is slower at 4.53 or so. So, i am thinking the cowboys will take a cap hit roy williams safety next year.

This is what i have heard, they can or when they guarantee tony romos contract they will save and add 4.5 million to the salary cap. I think if they cut or trade akin odoyle they save a million and a half. Thats 6 million right there. I see the cowboys restructing T O contract too. If Terry Glenn doesnt make it, cutting him or something along those lines, they save about 2 million, thats adds up to 9-10 million right there.

I am sure that after restructering Hamlins deal, they will save about a million, and when they redo barber and canty, that should save them another couple million. That should be enough to do everything.

Now, i am not sure if they trade for roy wiliams wr from detroit or chad johnson, but they should have enough to do it, from what i read the great analyzer on the salary cap Adam.

So, yes, but i dont think roy williams will be here next year, and not sure about newman he will be 31 next year. So, they may let him go or trade him, dont get me wrong i like newman, i think the cowboys will work something out, they may even francise newman next year, just to keep him a year, till their young cbs round out. I think they will draft 2 this year, I have an inside source on a top cb they are looking at, so they will be covered, for another year with newman franchised, pacman, henry, and the top 2 corners, and i am hearting that alan ball is rounding out this year too, =so thats plenty corners, the big key will be to resign Ware and Canty for sure.

Jesus, Hos you know what you guys should do, have a school for posting. So people are taught how to form paragraphs and sentences that are more than just random thoughts from a persons head.

Then charge 9.95 for every post that does not meet our standards.

You may lose people, but at least you'll make some money :)

If they don't pay: Extortion!!!!!

I think we'll choose to keep Ware over Newman if it came down to that.

Yes even Romo. I love Romo, but Ware is a player you just can't let go of. Romo is starting to remind me of Danny White in way to many ways.

Yep... like the Colts and Pats... you have to decide who your CORE talent is... your NUCLEUS and keep adding good young'uns to that group
