Can we honestly expect players returning from injury to somehow boost this team?

Is it fair for us to think that they'll be able to come in and be great for this team. My main focus is on the defense. These guys coming back from injury haven't played football in a while. With that said when they are able to return, how long should we expect the transition to take. Now miracles can happen, but I think it's unfair. I hope whenever they come back they're fully ready to go with no setbacks!!! Please give your thoughts

This is why they have a 2 to 3 week practice window. To see if they are ready.

They aren't going to just throw them out on the field to play cold. And say go produce.
They're still doing that as soon as that window is gone, that doesn't take away that they've missed football time for a while

Turn around a failing defense? No. Can they improve it a bit and make a difference? Sure. I think bigger gains are to be made in scheme and coaching though.
This defense really isn’t that bad, give some safety help and a linebacker. Because digs and bland really helped already.

This is not a failing defense, it’s a defense that isn’t playing as one and it will get better every week. And who knows by midseason

The impact won't be until after they get up to football speed. The only one to have any kind of impact will be O-Shown. I'm anxious to see Revel but also know he is still a rookie with no off season.

It is a case-by-case basis:
  • DeMarvion Overshown is an outstanding linebacker talent, who has flashed enormous potential. Unfortunately, injury has been his main foe for his career thus far. He will be an asset for improvement, but his addition will not be enough to upgrade the league's worst defense significantly.
  • Shavon Revel Jr. is a rookie with zero regular season reps. He owned a high draft grade. That is a plus, but it is also unproven in the pros. His active roster entry is a complete unknown at this time.
  • Jonathan Mingo is a two-year veteran, who has accumulated an underwhelming resume for two different teams during that span. His best three games (+60 yards receiving) were all with Carolina. He has not even sniff that type of production as a Cowboy. I really doubt he will give the offense a significant boost that exceeds Jalen Tolbert.

It depends on how healthy Overshown is and if he can stay healthy. His speed will help.

I don't know what we can say about Revel. We have yet to see him face NFL WRs. Remember how they talked about Eric Scott and Caelen Carson? And again, coming of a knee injury, how ready is he to play? Is he 100%? I doubt it.

Mingo might make the biggest impact. For one thing is a better blocker in the run game than Tolbert. But I wonder who loses snaps when Mingo gets back.

Neither did any of the starters on offense. Look how they are doing. #1 in the NFL.

Neither did any of our starters on defense. Look how they suck. #32 in the NFL.

Then will it matter for the IR, PUP, NFI players?

I do think getting Bland, Overshown, and Revel back can get them out of the basement, but this will still be a bad unit.

Yes.. It happened for Zimmer last year It's more than just them we're going to get CD and Booker and guys back on offense which will help.. I realize you're saying your main focus is on defense but not the better to our offense is better shot we have as scoring more when needed if our defense doesn't get back.. The back half of last year they finished strong that defense found its way but it looked like a mess the first half of the season The whole team looked the mess the first half of the season and even without Prescott there they were mathematically still in it pretty late so yes there's hope why not...

But its butler, Carson Revel, and Overshown. You don't know that they're not better than what we have that's the thing how do you know that they don't run Matt's defense better maybe they understand it better maybe one of them is converted to a safety like Butler he's got those type of skills but the answer is yes...

You also have to remember that if you can get Bland and Diggs feeling better and you get Clowny more involved and they start utilizing different players more and some of the other players less there's still a lot of adjustments they can make That's the hope that it's not just the players coming back it's each week they find a little bit more to tweak here and there to make this better.

Again last year this happened and it's too bad that Prescott wasn't still standing when they got it figured out when they had a better run game the better offensive line the defense figured it out players were coming back the light came on and it was too late we just got to hope it's not too late...

Like I stated in the other post they started out 3-5 and simply added Amari Cooper but there's no way it was just Amari Cooper, but It gave a boost to the rest of the team in 2018.. 3-5 start 7-1 finish 2nd round of the playoffs..

Yes. people it's very possible. we've seen it with our own eyes. i've seen other teams around the league do the same thing...
