can we officially label carpenter a bust?

Umm did you watch the end of his rookie year. He played well from the Atlanta game on.

Yep, well enough to earn him a prominent special teams role and the ability to tag along at dinner with Romo and Witten a couple times.

Actually, he may have won a locker room raffle or something to participate in that last part. The only thing he's "played well" enough to do has been remind us that he's too high up on the depth chart.

You cannot discuss with bias. He played well his rookie year and even Wade said he made a mistke by evaluating Carp on the basis of a game in which he was hurt.

It only helps us if he plays well.

Im saying hes a huge disappointment. Im not calling bust yet because I'm holding out hope that he gets on the field and earns his draft status and paycheck.

Lets see Carp
OSU big time school was number 1 in the nation big ten champs national titale camp AJ hawk drafted in the 1st round also looks like a bust to me

AJ Hawk was and is not a bust by any measure. They love him up here in Green Bay and he is quickly becoming a leader of that defense and a legit fan favorite. One of the first people local media interviews consistently after every game. If he's a bust...

And..
Yes Carp is a bust. After Bill drafting him as high as he did and thus implying to all of us he was so worth it, regardless his personal tie to the guy, and than coming in and doing what he did...ie. nothing whatsoever...he most definitely is a bust. And that would be speaking nicely.

Anyone drafted in the first round that isn't a major contributor after 2 years is a bust.

I'm not commenting of whether Carpenter is a bust, but you do know that Randy White didn't see the field until his 3rd year in the league. Was he a bust?

You keep going back to that one statement, but Wade DID indeed give him other chances at playing time throughout the regular season. YOU just don't remember any of them because Carp didn't do anything meaningful to take advantage of those chances. He was an invisible spectator out there with exception for the occasional high-five he'd give a fellow teammate after getting a close up view of a nice tackle.

Lastly, if I had any "bias", it would certainly ALWAYS be for the hope of success for any of our players. Obviously it only helps us if he plays well just like any other player would help. Unfortunately...he sucks. That doesn't really make him a bust however because Hawk carried those linebacker core at OSU anyway. Carpenter was a good compliment player there, and he's way in over his head here now. No bias about that. Just need to watch him run around confused for a couple plays while a starter catches his wind in order to figure that out.

If anyone has the playoff game in Seattle recorded go back and watch it.... Carpenter was arguably our best player in that game. He played great which is why I can't believe he hasn't been able to get on the field since that game.

He was the ILB on the Cowboy packages where he was the signla caller when only Ratliff was initially aligned on the line and that also happened to be immensely successful.

This could be true, but unfortunately I permanently blocked that game out of memory stores immediately after it ended.

i didn't mean him as a bust meant Carp didn't structure my sentence well enough for you to be able to distinguish the difference sorry

He's been injured...something many folks continue to ignore. Much like the fact that he was arguably our best special teams coverage guy this year.

Wade has said publicly that he made a mistake by not giving Carpenter much of a chance after he injured himself. If Carpenter regains his health, he'll have another opportunity to prove his detractors wrong. If not, then he's likely gone, and then the bust label will no doubt apply.

Agreed. People also forget that we've moved him from OLB to ILB back to OLB his rookie year.

Then Wade comes in, moves him back to ILB.

He never really has gotten "settled" at one position, either.

I expect him to figure in more next year, hopefully he does.

Agreed. 11 tackles. That's one for every game that he played in if my math is correct. That's HELLA "immensely successful".

In all seriousness, Junior Seau, who plays the same position and is like 95 years old, got that many tackles every two games.

Carpenter's signal calling was amazing though...I will give you that. He sounded like Pavarotti out there. Brilliant voice and excellent pats on the butt.

Wow, so you hate all our draft picks and every college program?? Thats what I get from that post. That and if you come from a small school youl should not do good. AJ Hawk is far from a bust as is Carp. I do believe that a bust would be a first rounder but nowadays there are alot more than 32 players with first round grades.

And McQ went to Weber St. but thanks for that little bit on BC. I wish McQ could have been a product of BC they churn out OL talent it seems every year.

I don't hate all our draft picks. I just don't like Carp and Spears cuz they don't produce and they come from big time schools. I was responding to a person that said these guys were bust. If you haven't seen any of my post be4 i am a fan of the U so of course i will say FSU sucks. If you watch college football you would know that ND is overrated. AJ hawk isn't a busti mean to say carp but used poor sentence structure so you couldn't tell the difference.

If you come from a small school then it is believed that you do not have the same skill sets as some1 from D-1. You don't have the same mechanics and fundamentals. If you don't believe me look at our 7th round picks Alan ball and Qourtney Brown, Both CB's one moved to safety because he didn't have the hips and the mechanics alan had

Did you label Bradie James a bust? Did you label Randy white a bust?

there are plenty of players for whatever reason that dont become the players they can be until the 4th or 5th year.

Ha, I do love how all the delusional Carpenter supporters keep pushing back the time-frame for his "window of prominence" to open.

I'll check back in two years when we're looking for some 6th or 7th year break out veterans that he's destined to become.

Not at all, he was drafted to play O.L.B. but then Ellis made the adjustment to O.L.b. so his rookie eyar we made him learn all 4 L.B. positions and when he got on the field late inthe year looked really good.
Then we moved him inside permanently but we already had Ayodelle and James which are two very good L.b.'s to unseed plus Burnett.
I feel once he actually gets on the field, He'll be good, but for a 1st round pick, he should make more of an impact, BUST, can't be sure as of yet, we'll know in 2 more years.
