Well, I agree with the Brent thing. Spencer has shown nothing worth him starting. I just remember Brent really coming into his own and controlling the point as a big guy that could move well. I would just love some way of getting those 4 guys on the field at the same time, if possible.

The problem is he did that when we were in the 3-4. We are in a Tampa 2 style 4-3 now, and a big bodied NT just isn't as important. As of right now Melton and Crawford are our tackles and both are playing great. We risk losing something by moving Crawford back to end, and we gain a guy that won't be that good in the passing game and hasn't played a real game in several years. We keep things the way they are for now.

Yeah, but Brent just had that attacking style that a lot of guys his size don't. He's not so much a Jason Ferguson, but bigger than a Ratliff. I know he's not gonna immediately blow up when he comes back. Just interested since the Cowboys already extended him and see something we haven't yet.

Melton and Crawford are our DTs in the nickel (which we run about 60% of the time). The other 40% of the time our DTs are Crawford (or Melton) and Hayden. Hayden gets a lot of snaps because he's the only 1-tech on the roster. It won't take long before Brent becomes our best 1-tech.

Passing downs I would like to see:

Mincey (LDE)
Melton (3 Tech)
Crawford (1Tech)
Lawrence (RDE)

Selvie, Spencer, McClain and Hayden get rotated in with Mincey moving end to end when we're thinking running downs.

If/when Brent is ready he will be more utilized on running downs. Times in games where teams are running right at us and forcing us to stop them.

Terrell McClain does not play the 1 tech for us?

Well this line had better come together, because a no pressure eli could mean a 400 yard game against this team on the 23rd. These corners are doing OK but this line needs consistent pressure for the stretch. So whatever combo marinelli chooses is fine with me so long as its consistent and gives us the best chance to protect the back end.

He's more of a 3-tech. He usually plays backup 3-tech and DT in the nickel. Hayden gets almost all the 1-tech snaps in the base defense.

Hayden seems to be wearing down. He's getting pushed around pretty good the last few weeks. So if Brent can give us 10-15 good snaps maybe that helps Hayden.

Hayden's been getting them because McClain has been hurt. When McClain has been healthy and playing like in the Giants game he was the 1 tech and man was he good.

It would be nice to see Terrell McClain be consistently healthy and that would be a huge help. The guy's been hurt since training camp.

It would be nice if McClain could be the full-time 1-tech. I remember Marinelli liking him more as a hybrid 3/1-tech. He was even the starting 3-tech early in the preseason when Melton was out and Crawford was still a SDE. That's why I said Marinelli likes having one true 1-tech on the roster (i.e. Hayden). It would be nice if McClain became the full-time 1-tech and made Hayden expendable. And even if Brent could get 10-15 snaps, like someone else said, that would be nice too. Basically any scenario where Hayden isn't playing 35+ snaps a game.

Passing downs and Mincey???????? I am sick and tired of watching QBs run right past him.

He gets more pressure than Selvie and you move Mincey to Selvies side like stated in my post ;)

DeMarcus Lawrence plays Mincey's current side as Mincey moves over.

Mincey is the closest 3 down DE we have on this team not including a recovering Spencer.
