This seems like a new DL to me. Even though we still have some leftovers I thought they looked like a different D. Maybe just getting to the passer and creating some pressure gave me that impression?

Was it all the newcomers? The fact we played a lot of 3-4?

How do you think Canty looked? I didn't realize his lower body was that bulky. He got some good push a few times.

How about some observations on overall play, play in different schemes, how certain players meshed with each other and maybe didn't, individual assessments.

I didn't tape it and can't record it. How about how it broke down from you football coaches out there.

Doesn't seem to be much talk of Coleman and others.

Anything relevant?

Our 4-3 since Haley has been trying to rush the passer with no guy weighing less than 270 pounds. Those guys have been bulky and not particularly quick-footed even if they had great 40 times(see Ekuban).

Now in this 3-4 or even when we go 4 down linemen a lot of times we are using a LB who weighs just under 250 to rush that has speed, quickness, agility. 300 pound OL have a real hard time dealing with that as do 220 pound RBs. Focussing on ware and his speed will free up the bigger guys inside to get a push.

Coleman, Ellis, Canty and other seemed to do well inside against the runand were gettign a bit of push versus the pass. I didn't see alot out of the late late groups but early on they seemed to do well.

Canty has some tree trunks for legs. I think a year or two in a NFL weight program and he will be an absolute terror. As it is, I think he will be pretty good.

If these guys are doing their job in a 3-4, we probably won't see much from them except some push and the occasional sack. The LBers are going to be the guys making the plays in this scheme. The one thing I do like about the 3-4 ends on the team is that they provide quite a bit of pass rush ability, which is typically not something you expect from a 3-4 end.

I also want to see some of these guys at other positions along the DL. Specifically, Canty and Spears (when he gets healthy) as pass rushing DTs in a four man front.

I really like the idea of the nickel front four being Ellis, Glover, Spears/Canty and Ware.

I think at some point the starters will be Fergy with Spears & Canty at the ends...Too much power to be stopped...

Glover & Ellis are tailor made for nickle/dime passing downs, being smaller, but quick types...

I saw alot of 4-3 last night too. Seemed to confuse the Seattle backups alot.

It's nice to see our backups outplay another team's backups.

i liked that we had alot players around the ball last night. a couple of plays we had over pursuit and alexander cut it back. the stat that worried me was Hasselback 11-12 at one point but after that the coverage was good
