Cap Space with Dak now signed

Dak’s cap hit is 22.2 mil this year.

if the cap is 180. His cap hit % is 12.3

if the cap is 185. His % is 12

Now where were all the posters saying he would take up 20% of the cap?

And where are all the posters who were saying that a QB can’t make more than 13% of the cap or it will kill a teams chances?

Or could it be that, like some of us have said for years. The contract and “APY” was meaningless but it was about the structure of the deal.....

Things that make you go hmmmm

I have seen the first year cap hit at 25.5m and 22.2m. All fine and dandy. With 126m guaranteed (probably SB and first three years of salary) and 160m total, they have to amortize either 134.5m or 137.8m over the last three years for cap. That means his average cap hit for years 2-4 will be around 46m, so don't gloat too much. In reality it probably is more of a three year deal.

There are 2 voidable years. So some of that money will actually be spread over year 5 and 6

Should've invested in the defense while Dak was playing for peanuts....
they have. they have spent 44 draft picks in past 15 years on defense. 23 in the past 5 years and we have only Lawrence to show for it....

we just can't pick defense. and outside of Lawrence, there wasn't really anybody we needed to invest and keep. you don't build a defense through FA. there isn't enough money. even if we had a minimum wage QB

It will be interesting to see how this deals sets the QB landscape. Mahomes is #1 QB at 50 mil a year. Dak is a guy most consider around #10 on the list of QBs and his is at 40 mil a year. How long will it be before every top QB will be above 40 mil and Dak’s contract value returns to what he really is in the QB pecking order?

The people that Hate Dak and this deal wouldn't care if his cap hit payed for 1 million this year

Is the other way around, the ppl that love Dak and this deal wouldn't care about the cap.

Since there's going to be a lower cap hit this offseason and they can restructure a few contracts, can they please sign a big, fat monster like Dalvin Tomlinson,
a decent vet LB, maybe an old fart like Sherman (possibly cheap and scheme fit)...and draft a FS like Mohrig?

Thought they could only spread the SB over 5 years. That is where the difference of 25.5 versus 22.2 comes from. It is still going to be over 40m hits for years 2-4. But I am sure they have their big hits spread out with other players and outs if a guy totally craps the bed. I'm really not that worried about the money....just want to see them go all in and give Dak the best chance to win a SB. You invested in him, don't half *** it. Like we did for several years when they refused to pay OL because Romo was so good at avoiding sacks.

In reality 2021/2 is 2016/7. It will be the best chance with Prescott over the next 4 years so they need to go all in for the one shot.

I think they already plan to restructure next year which is why there are two void able years. Or maybe they just want the option in case the salary cap doesn't recover as expected.

Mahomes won't hit 40M until 2023.

It depends on how and when they decide to restructure also. They should be able to restructure some of the base salaries and spread them down the road also. I think that will all depend on how the future cap is looking with upcoming TV deals.

But yes. I agree. They need to go for it now.

they have the offense set.
Restructure some deals, get some cap space, sign some defensive FA’s and draft defense with your high picks you have this year.

it’s time to go for the jugular.

I mean, seriously, if they don't, they are going to just look stupid. You don't sign this deal without planning to go all in. Would make zero sense.

How long have you known Jerry

the objective is to “stay relevant “ and rake in the bucks

Mahomes won't hit 40M until 2023.

Mahomes will be renegotiating in 2 years if the Amazon TV deal hits. Dude will be making $60 mil probably if he stays healthy. There is no one that doesn't believe he will get top $ whatever it is. Even all the other QB's know the deal.
