Cap Space with Dak now signed

I agree, but the cap could be negotiated up. I have heard it may even be flat vs 2020 which would put us around $19.5MM in space before restructures.

True but these figures will be set fairly soon as FA is approaching, I do know 22 mill this season is a lot better than 37 considering this will be a likely a lower cap amount than it would have been had it not been for covid

Extending players that are older and becoming injury prone would be stupid. The team would be stuck paying them a lot of money when they should be getting rid of those players.

That is why you don't restructure Tyron. Martin and Collins are still young enough to fulfill their contracts and have not been injury prone. Cooper has had injuries but plays through them and still produces at a high level. If it all falls apart you cut bait and go back to the drawing board.

Dak’s cap hit is 22.2 mil this year.

if the cap is 180. His cap hit % is 12.3

if the cap is 185. His % is 12

Now where were all the posters saying he would take up 20% of the cap?

And where are all the posters who were saying that a QB can’t make more than 13% of the cap or it will kill a teams chances?

Or could it be that, like some of us have said for years. The contract and “APY” was meaningless but it was about the structure of the deal.....

Things that make you go hmmmm

The problem for Dallas is not 2021. Signing Dak was always necessary to ensure they had cap room. But, the piper gets paid eventually. If Dak averages $40 million and 2021 is only $22.2 million, that just means the rest of the years on his deal are going to be enormous cap impacts. We can cross our fingers and hope the CAP goes up but there are no guarantees that it will go up enough to provide relief. People claiming we can restructure DLaw and Cooper and everyone else to free up 10s of millions are just pushing off the inevitable bill that will come due. Restructuring DLaw, in my opinion, would be a mistake because it means his cap value will skyrocket just as we have to pay Dak what we pushed off on his contract. The best thing Dallas can do is renegotiate 1 or two contracts modestly to make enough room for the rookie pool (about $7.5 million), to pay Dak, and then sign maybe 1 or 2 of their own free agents to 1 year deals. Pushing off $40 million in CAP space over the next 3 years, coupled with Dak's contract is going to cripple them.

Dallas can restructure Amari Cooper and DeMarcus Lawrence and gain $27 million of space. They'll be fine.
I would prefer Dlaw and Martin myself
I wouldn’t restructure zeke for sure
But your point is correct
We can create as much space as we need

that sounds ok but till we see the cap hit for all 4 years we can not judge it.
And we cant assume the cap is going to go up, right now we dont know if fans will be allowed to go to stadiums or if they will be full capacity.
if not the owners will still siphon off the cap for their money.

Yes it's still uncertain but cased of Covid are dropping, the vaccine is being administrated, etc. So it's a pretty safe bet the cap will go up, and the 2021 season won't be over for another 11 months, plenty of time to have things improve. It's a good risk...

Yeah I understand how it works.

and no
It’s not going to cripple them. They’ll likely restructure him next year and keep pushing some of the money into future years as the cap is about to go up significantly.
