The problem for Dallas is not 2021. Signing Dak was always necessary to ensure they had cap room. But, the piper gets paid eventually. If Dak averages $40 million and 2021 is only $22.2 million, that just means the rest of the years on his deal are going to be enormous cap impacts. We can cross our fingers and hope the CAP goes up but there are no guarantees that it will go up enough to provide relief. People claiming we can restructure DLaw and Cooper and everyone else to free up 10s of millions are just pushing off the inevitable bill that will come due. Restructuring DLaw, in my opinion, would be a mistake because it means his cap value will skyrocket just as we have to pay Dak what we pushed off on his contract. The best thing Dallas can do is renegotiate 1 or two contracts modestly to make enough room for the rookie pool (about $7.5 million), to pay Dak, and then sign maybe 1 or 2 of their own free agents to 1 year deals. Pushing off $40 million in CAP space over the next 3 years, coupled with Dak's contract is going to cripple them.
