The Cardinals have announced that they have signed free agent safety Terrence Holt to a five-year contract. Holt was an unrestricted free agent who spent the past four seasons with the Lions.

Holt, who turned 27 Monday, should compete with Aaron Francisco for the job opposite strong safety Adrian Wilson.

Like Wilson, Holt attended North Carolina State, and Wilson was instrumental in recruiting him for the Cardinals.

Holt, 6 feet 2, 208 pounds, started 15 games last season for the Lions, finishing with three interceptions. He is the younger brother of Rams receiver Torry Holt.

I would have like to have had him as a backup, but he's got a chance to start in Arizona and he received a 5 year contract.

Not even sure he would be worth signing as a backup....Not much better than Keith Davis or Pat Watkins.

I like Pat Watkins too...He struggled in coverage, but he was a rookie...I wouldnt mind seeing him and Davis fight for the starting job in training camp, maybe along with a high draft pick...This draft is deep on safeties
