There are no details in the contract except the words

"we'd rather die before we give up on Pettiti"

Immediately right after that statement, he was released.

Sometimes you have to give up on a player. The fact that Petitti has not played in the NFL since we cut him pretty much says it all.

I don't think he actually got in a game with either one from what I remember.

Actually played in 5 games? Wow. Lot more then I thought. Though it kind of makes you think when you realize he started a whole season for us.

Yeah...It kind of surprised me as well.

Although as much as many hated on him...he really was not ready to start and was pushed into the role where it was clear he was not ready.
Sad thing is the hate here for him also was because of his dad being a board member and people wanting to push buttons over the issue.

Always struck me as a good kid who was asked to do way too much here. What was he a 6th round draft pick?

All the best.

A testament to having little to zilch depth. Hope we work on that again this draft.

Love ya man but I have a correction. The hate grew for him once it was "implied" that we need to walk on egg shells because his dad posted here.

It almost seemed as if he could not be judged in the same manner as any other player on the Cowboys because his dad posted here and it really did make the issue bigger then it needed to be. Many went out of there way in spite to criticize him.

Truth be told, he deserved it. He was a human baffle gate but people took it to a personal level once they realized his father was here and were told to reduce the criticism.

By the way, if your looking for a connection. Dave Magazu who is the OL coach with Carolina is regular side kick of Parcells at the Horse Tracks.

Pettiti just did not have the footwork to play tackle. Just too slow there. Nothing you can do about that. I was kind of surprised that no one has tried him at guard though. THe guy gave all he had while he was here- one should never hate on any player that is clearly putting all he has out on the field.

I don't agree with your correction at all. Pittdawg handled the criticism of his son like a champ. I can only recall one time that we jumped on his butt because he was out of line. One time despite all the things he endured about his son.

BP is exactly right. People saw a chance to really have their criticism heard and they pounced on the guy. I don't recall this site ever saying that people could not voice their opinions on Rob Pettiti. Perhaps you can show me that thread. Posters came to his defense. Some vehemently because the criticism was over the top.

Pittdawg even shared with this forum the news of the death of Parcells brother. 6 hours before any news outlet had the story. He was crucified on other forums as a liar.

Ever since then when I know someone is a family member of one of our players I advise them to keep that information quiet. I know of family members for 3 of our current players and they don't post. Thank heavens.

I hope a player's family member never posts on this site again. I am dead serious too. I don't care how great that player is, I have no doubt the lynch mobs would assemble.

Oh I'm not arguing how he handled himself. I give him all the credit in the world for how he handled himself. I was talking about how certain board members acted because he posted here and how new rules seemed to grow simply by his presence.

I'll be honest Hos I'm not going to find anything at this point in time and maybe I'm recalling wrong for the majority. I just know I was very vocal about my feelings for Rob as a player just as I am with any player (you know that) and more then a few times it was suggested that I tone it down even though I never took it to a personal level or voiced my opinion any louder the I would have with any player.

There were benefits to having him here and the fact that he was so front and center were a experience many posters did not know how to handle.

I know of one who has posted maybe a handful of times and I doubt that number will grow much. VERY smart move.

Yeah, and that's what sealed our fate when Flozell went down in Week 6 of the '05 season. At that point, we were having to hide two tackles. Remember ol' Torrin Tucker?

What new rule? I would really be interested in knowing that since I am the guy who updates them. Maybe you can let me know something that I don't even know that I did. We have edited the format and made things clearer, but it is news to me that we created a rule for Rob Pettiti. Help me out please.

Fan and poster opinions do not equal rules.

To my knowledge no one got banned for disliking the player. Some got infractions because their comments were over the top. That happens regardless of the topic.

I agree. Benefits we will probably never have again. I find that kind of sad.

I probably know who you are talking about. I know of a couple of semi-active posters. One guy let it be known who he was related to one time but thankfully no one really noticed it.

I never accused you of writing any rules. It seemed at the time to be more of a unwritten rule. Perhaps mods were protecting Pittdawg and were trying to quiet things before they got out of hand but it just seemed at the time criticism of Rob was being held to a different standard then other players because of his father.

I never recall anyone getting banned because of it either but I can promise you, if we were able to pull up old PM's the threat was made to myself for comments that were no more outrageous or personal then those I might make of any player. I wont say if this happened to other members, it's not my roll to speak for them.

Again, it's just at the time it did seem a rash of unwritten rules and standard seemed to follow Pittdawg around.

There are no hard feelings over it. It's long passed. I have no reason to hold a grudge or for that matter make up any stories or dramatize how I felt. It's just how I remember it in my case and that of the other members I remember speaking to that felt the same way.
