Dallas Cowboys Pro shop is selling Carpenter's jersey already . He's wearing #54 ! Here's hoping he can come anywhere close to wearing it as well as our previous #54's .

#54 Chuck Howley
#54 Randy White
#54 Bobby Carpenter

Please let this be a pattern !

Carpenter justs needs to go play hard and give his best and I think people will be pretty pleased with him.

Blasphemy.

To wear White's number and never have set foot on an NFL field ?

And for anyone to buy a rookies jersey with #54 would be even worse.

Where is the tradition guys ?

Sorry, but I am a litle ol' school and set in my ways. You owe those that came before you and were elite players their due.

Understandable, but the Boys don't ever offically retire numbers, although you'll never see 8 and 22 again.....

Any rumors on what the other rookies will wear?

Here's what I could find:

Bobby Carpenter #54
Anthony Fasano #47
Skyler Green #10
Jason Hatcher #97
Pat McQuistan #77
Montavious Stanley #60
Pat Watkins #25
E.J. Whitley #70

That's it so far (source - dallascowboys.com)

The Commanders have only retired one number in its history. #33 Sammy Baugh.

However you will be hard pressed to see a guy wearing # 3, 7, 9, 42, 43, 44, 49, or 81.

Something about this just rubs me the wrong way.

The Cowboys don't retire numbers but numbers 74 and 12 have never been assigned during the regular season since Bob Lilly and Roger Staubach retired.

#22 hasn't been assigned since Emmitt retired and in all likelihood it won't be, same for Aikman's #8.

#88 has been worn by a number of players since Irvin retired though.

BTW, Slingin Sam was a heck of a player! Great QB, Punter, and DB a triple threat!

Best to honor an existing number than to retire it. No Cowboy will likey ever wear 8, 12, 22, or 74 again, though. Too bad, I'd like to see 22 recycled one day as it was worn well by both Bob Hayes and Emmitt.

I don't think you will see #23 worn again........Goodrich ruined the number.
