Pros: The type of impact player that an offense must account for on every play, and he still produced as a senior even after seeing a number of double-teams and chip blocks. He can play immediately and provide big-play ability as an edge rusher. A big-effort player who runs to the ball well with outstanding speed and acceleration to close in pursuit. He is capable of playing while moving forward and attacking the line of scrimmage or dropping in coverage.
Cons: Will slip down to the late first or early second round in a deep linebacker class due to his broken ankle in the season finale. He is able to slip and avoid blocks well, using an array of moves, including the swim, rip and club maneuvers, but he is still just touching the surface of his pass-rushing talent. A reliable wrap-up-and-secure tackler, though not one who is noted for being a really jarring tackler.
Numbers: At the Combine, he weighed in at 256 pounds at just under 6-3. He did not work out due to an ankle injury. He ran the 40 in 4.66 and 4.68 and had a 34.5-inch vertical jump, a broad jump of 10-feet, 4-inches, and 20 strength reps at Ohio State’s pro day. As a senior, he made 49 tackles with 10.5 tackles for loss, two passes defended and eight sacks.

That's why he gets knocked, because he doesn't knock the crap out of people. Personally, I prefer a wrap up tackler. You can bounce off a guy who tries to knock the snot out of you, a guy that wraps you up, is almost always going to bring you down, or hold you until the rest of his team gets there.

I guess the guy (Carpenter) is knocked because he's technically sound.

Do we need to mention his dad is a former NFL player and now high school coach. I am with Parcells, coach's sons are often the best player and have the best training. Great pedigree and great size for the 3-4. Our LB core is awesome!!!!!!

That is the only scouting report I've ever seen where the con section was nothing but positive comments. Anyone notice that?

Yep....the thing that sells is the bone-jarring hits. I love it that RW can do it, so we already have that person. I'll take the guy that is technically precise over a guy that bounces off of people anytime....especially if the guy bounces off of him and goes in for a TD. Those are the most frustrating plays. You are always yelling at the TV "Why didn't you wrap him up, you idiot!".

This guy will be playing at 260 soon. He is a workhorse in the gym. When he gets on the NFL weight training program. He will bulk up and be real nasty...

If those are the only cons...that's fine with me.

So....if he ends up being a bust, can we blame you? ;)

Wow. Those are his negatives? Sure seem like positives to me. "Still touching the surface of his pass-rushing talent" is a negative? I'll take that anyday.

I have been pn the carp bandwagon since Dallas lost the last game. We needed serious help at LB and FS and OT,

LB-check
OL-2nd
fs or WR-3rd
