Carr to shadow Cruz?

Maybe just speculation by MacMahon.

But Carr considers it a personal challenge to keep the NFC’s third-leading receiver from last season from continuing to kill the Cowboys, hinting that he’ll be shadowing Cruz all over the field in Wednesday night’s season opener.

I hope that is not their game plan. To easy for the offense to call plays if they know who is covering a particular player every play. Need to mix in man and with some zone's etc to keep Eli guessing.

But if they think this is the best option, I guess we will see how it works.

I personally don't think so, but will be very interesting to watch in any case.

Rob will have a solid plan to contain Cruz. Bet they cover him multiple ways, Carr and Claiborne both getting some cover time on the outside, to mix it up. Scandy will cover in the slot, against quick slants by Cruz across the middle.

I think it's a good move.

Cruz isn't particularly big so Carr get get physical with him at the line and disrupt his routes early.

Nicks is a little bigger and could probably fight off Carrs presence to a greater extent.

I honestly cannot wait to see this secondary.

That's what I would do.

Please God don't let this happen.

"The sample size is small and Dallas upgraded its pass defense since, but Victor Cruz burned up the Cowboys for 12 catches, 252 yards and a score in their two 2011 meetings. With Domenik Hixon anointed New York's No. 3 receiver, Cruz will play most of his snaps in the slot against overrated, overpaid inside corner Orlando Scandrick. Scandrick won't be able to run with Cruz on option routes he takes vertical. Unless DC Rob Ryan makes a significant defensive adjustment, $50.1 million LCB Brandon Carr may go to waste covering Hixon on critical downs in this game."

Yeah right.

I'm sure the rest of the NFL will follow suit and play the #3 CBs against Calvin Johnson whenever he works out of the slot.

As long as we put pressure on Manning, I really think our corners will be fine. Major upgrade from last season!

IIRC, we beat the Giants in 2010 by confusing the heck out of Eli by mixing coverages before the snap. I think it was his own admission too.

Nicks is injured guys. So I expect he won't be at full speed.

That said, I think Cruz has developed into a bigger threat than Nicks. Nicks you just need to make sure you have help over the top.

That's why I would put Claiborne on him. Clairborne is faster, and I'm not expecting him to shutdown Nicks, but instead make the tackle and limit as much YAC as possible.

Soon enough, Claiborne will be more aggressive and break on certain routes. But right now, I wouldn't want him on a burner like Cruz.

This would be a major departure from our typical practice. Almost no team had corners shadow receivers less than Dallas last season.

I wouldn't say Cruz is better than Nicks. Nicks is an absolute nightmare WR. He has extremely good hands, is big, physical, and has more speed than you would expect. They are both just as good as each other and yet are completely different WR's.

I think Carr will be covering Nicks, Scandrick will get Cruz in the slot, and Claiborne will get Hixson. We should try and double Cruz too.

Cruz had one great year. Nicks has been an elite reciever the last three years. He's definitely the better player right now.

Me too.
Nicks was the dominant player come playoff time ad he's more physical than Cruz.

Then again, Carr could manhandle Cruz some on the line.

Dallas didn't have a CB worth the trouble of shadowing.

Define elite.

His #s for any of those 3 seasons aren't elite. I don't know if I would call him elite yet either.
