I think Joseph will be break even in replacing Brown.
- Will make a few mistakes but somewhat better at playing the ball in the air than Brown.

Sheffield is much more of an option than I realized before looking at his history with Atlanta.

Bland played 86% and 91% of snaps on defense in the past 2 games.
- It is highly unlikely that they try him at outside CB.
- In the preseason he struggled at outside CB but was terrific inside.

Joseph isn’t terrible in coverage. He just lacks the awareness to make a play.

Wright doesn’t have the hips to move with shiftier receivers,

I think KJ will be fine. It would be nice to see him make a play lol

I'm not sure I buy the 4.49 time either. Maybe I'm wrong about straight line speed but from what I have seen he certainly doesn't have change of direction or short area burst.

Condensed areas are about the only place I can see him doing well with his length.

Maybe Sheffield is an option.

I am also somewhat intrigued by Israel M getting some time outside. Seems to be a playmaker.

When you don't have many choices, you gotta throw some stuff out there and see what works the best.

This would be my choice.

Diggs, Bland, Joseph and Sheffield. Muk starts rotating in and could be starting / seeing snaps by Philly.

Houston and Jacksonville came at a perfect time

From the little I saw and my own opinion Sheffield looks better at slot, but the Cowboys are playing him outside so whatever. I noticed Sheffield wasn't playing the ball in the past, but he was good at fighting to rip the ball out at catchpoint.

Really wish they would've brought Quandre Mosely back, but he just signed to the Patriots PS.

I'm with guys who think Mukuamu could do a solid job at CB, so feeling this way about IM, and comfortable with KJ n Wright, I'm not panicked. One of these guys can play, let's see who it is.

That is a false narrative about Wright not having sufficient change of direction skills.

I just re-watched all of his snaps from the 2022 pre-season games.

  • His problems were not related to change of direction issues.
    • His issues are technique, primarily timing/spacing.
    • On a curl route, he was there in plenty of time, but hit the WR a split second too early.
    • On a deep sideline route, he was outside & under which is the worst spot to defend a pass.
      • The CB has to either play over or inside-under on sideline routes.
    • Later he did play inside-under and was in perfect position but still got called for PI because he touched the WRs arm a split second before the ball arrived.
    • On another catch he slowed up a step early. It appeared he was concerned about running into the WR.
  • He obviously struggled in the pre-season games, but not because he lacked change of direction skills.
    • Wright has sufficient physical ability to play the style that Dan Quinn prefers.
    • The Diggs & Richard Sherman styles. Byron Jones played a similar style when he played CB for the Cowboys.
  • In an interview, Richard Sherman said that he would have had a short career if he had tried to play the Revis style.
    • It's a long explanation, but and extremely simple explanation:
      • Revis:
        • React to the WR and mirror his movements.
      • Sherman:
        • Force the WR inside or outside such that Sherman didn't have to guess which direction to turn his hips.
        • Play within the scheme and always know where the help defenders are (should) be located.
  • Wright: Short Area Burst
    • Good enough. Not elite, but not terrible.
    • He didn't give up a 1st down on a couple of those WR smoke screen plays.
    • The catches he gave up in the 2022 preseason were not related to issues with short area burst.
  • Wright: Future
    • I have no idea of he'll resolve his issues, but he definitely has sufficient physical ability to play in Dan Quinn's defense.
      • The problem is that his issues only improve with reps.
      • I don't know how many reps he gets during the regular season practices.
      • Even if he gets sufficient practice reps, it's against players he see everyday.
  • Cowboys 2022
    • Kendall Sheffield: After reviewing his history in Atlanta, I think he might be more 'ready now' than Wright.
      • He had 20 starts and was active in 38 total games. Most games he didn't play were due to injury.
      • It's possible that he is more 'ready now' than Joseph, just based on NFL experience.
    • Kelvin Joseph
      • I've reviewed all of this snaps in both regular season and preseason games.
      • I think he'll be a break even replacement for Anthony Brown.
        • Better playing the ball but will make some mistakes due to lack of NFL experience.

I think Joseph will have a lot more issues with mental lapses than Brown. I hope Joseph proves me wrong and turns out to be a very solid player for us. I think the smart money is betting otherwise. The only thing that gives me any hope that Joseph is not a complete bust is DQ.

He is a project that may workout as a starter or at worst a replacement for CJ Goodwin.

What gives me hope for KJ is he is in position on the plays he gives up. He just needs a better awareness and to be able to make a play on the ball. It’s not like he is Jacques Reeves out there

Joseph is going to be a shutdown corner before the end of the season. QB's are going to start picking on Diggs, because Joseph will be playing super lights out. By his third start you'll start to see the difference.

Mark my words.

Cowboys should try Bland at other boundary corner opposite Diggs and find another slot corner. Now is time to experiment with all in House options.

And I was absolutely shocked that Cowboys did not draft Tariq Woolen. Woolen screamed DQ perfection at corner.
