CB Situation Tidbits

For what it is worth, CB Andra Dyson has a leg injury which is why he didn't play in last night's Jet game. Somebody on this board posted rumor the Jets were shopping him for an OG. This doesn't mean rumor is/is not true but still..... and injury could be minimal or even a cover not to play him if trading is an option.

CB Fred Thompson of NO Saints, a 12 year vet, apparently in trouble so he might be available. Would he be any better then any of our #4 or below CBs? Worth a 1 yr cheap deal?

We may be glad we didn't draft CB Aaron Ross. In checking out Dyson on Goggle came across tidbits re Ross from various Giant fans & also comments on a Giant forum re his play. Let's just say he's not starting this year & their much disappointment in his play. Supposedly he hasn't shown anything even during the whole preseason including against 2nd & 3rd stringers & already they talk about him being a bust. So, while we not be happy with our CB situation, at least it's not a young first round CB whose not producing.

Might make it even more important in 08 draft that we use Cleveland pick on a CB if McFadden not available. If he is and we use only Cleveland pick on him, we might even have to trade up a grab a quality young CB. For the record, seniors who will be available in 08 draft not highly regarded but there several juniors who are rated ahead of all the seniors at this point in the year -- admittedly much to early to really evaluate.

If I'm so pretty, why am I available?

I was talking to a coworker this morning that is a Giant fan. He was expressing concern about Ross and his play as well.

I thought Ross was a bust from the start. I never saw what people liked about him. He's not quick enough and probably not fast enough. Seeing him get worked by that Iowa WR in their bowl game was just the topper for me.

I was happy to see the Giants get him, though. :)

When we draft a guy next year, I hope we go for the elite-type speed and athleticism even if the guy needs a year of development. When you draft a mediocre (at this level) athlete to play corner, you might be looking at at future safety.

But anyway... I don't see how we get anyone any good at this point unless *maybe* there's a team that wants to replace some vet with what they think is a close-to-comparable cheaper rookie. In other words, more a monetary than a football decision.

:hammer:

Never understood everyone's love for him here. Must be Longhorn Homerism.

Ross is quick enough and fast enough. That is more evident when he returns punts, which he did very well in college. To me his problems seem to be more technique related. I think he is poor on technique and relies too much on his physical skills. Poor technique can be a killer for a corner. I didn't like him in the 1st round and thought of him at best a late 2nd rounder. It was a reach for the Giants to take him so early.

I'm so glad the Giants got him. As a senior he lead his team's passing defense to be ranked right at 100 in D1. Yikes.

I always thought he was better equipped to b e a SS or FS and would be moved there once he got to the NFL, but the Giants drafted him with the intent of using him as a CB. He will be toast at that position.

I thought so... and still think that is where he will play at in the NFL more FS than SS

I just wanted to pile on Ross. The guy was a head scratcher in the first round. He would have been a nice 3rd/4th round pick that could have had a decent career as a nickel back.

Thompson's too busy with acting and possibly running for President so I think he'd make a terrible cornerback.

I wouldn't mind offering a pick for Baltimore's Ronnie Prude. They raved about him in last years camp, he had 2 picks during the season, and appears to have kept it up this years camp. They have been trying him out at safety too just so that they can get him on the field and because Reed just returned to practice yesterday.

Im not sure but I think this is the guy who co-lead, with Sean Taylor in TDs allowed.

No thanks.

I'd like a 2nd helping of "NO THANKS" as well. THIS GUY COULD BE THE WORST CORNER IN THE LEAGUE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:banghead:

Not that we would want them, but Houston released Ty Poole and Dexter McCleon....

I would not mind bringing either guy in as insurance.

Watch out Stan, I got spanked for mentioning a certain (retired) legislator by way of illustration...

Where's the outrage? :D
