Cowboys wideout Cole Beasley would like to catch more passes this season. And that means running a higher number of routes to attract the attention of quarterback Tony Romo.
Beasley has caught 91 passes for 916 yards and six touchdowns in his first three seasons combined. He managed 37 receptions for 420 yards and four scores a year ago. But he signed a four-year, $13.6 million deal with $7.3 million guaranteed in early March, so the team is likely expecting more in 2015.
That's one reason why he is seeking to expand his horizons and develop a stronger on-field relationship with Romo.
"I've always been comfortable with Tony," he told the Dallas Morning News. "Now it's just building more of a route tree pretty much. We've always had the routes that we've been good at and just kind of left it at that the past three years. Hopefully we can build on some more things and I can add to the inventory and get some more routes so we can build a connection with those."
Beasley added his belief that his statistical improvement would benefit the Cowboys.
"If all of us take that approach and improve individually it will make us better collectively," he said. "You're always going to look back at your stats because you have your own personal goals. You want to do better each year. But a lot of my success depends on other people, so it really doesn't matter if it doesn't add up to wins."
