First Cowboys Game Could Be Their Last
Posted by CBS11

Does anyone else out there see the irony? The Cowboys first pre-season match-up could very well be their last game of the season, the Super Bowl February 1 in Tampa. Think about it for a minute.

San Diego took a beat up football team to the AFC Championship Game and gave New England all they could handle. I don't think New England will be as strong as they were last season, with Pro Bowl cornerback Asante Samuel signing with Philly and a defense that is getting older by the minute. They are certainly a contender, along with Indy and a few other teams from the AFC, but this could be the Bolts year.

The Cowboys are almost a mirror image of the Chargers, maybe the most talented team in their conference, but a team that hasn't been able to do anything once the post-season begins. And that is selling San Diego short, as last year they showed tremendous courage to go to Indy and get a win with a beat up football team, although they were playing an Indy team that was also reeling from injuries.

And think this storyline won't be played up if Dallas and San Diego both make it to the Super Bowl? Both head coaches, Norv Turner and Wade Phillips, were both coordinators for the other team... Turner was this close (as I hold my thumb and forefinger millimeters apart) and both have the reputation of being great coordinators who have had limited success as head coaches. Yea, something tells me we won't run out of story ideas if these two teams meet in February, and for my money, I think it could very easily happen.

Dallas vs San Dee Ah Go in Tampa

I really dont see Deigo as the AFC Champs this year. I think both the Colts and the Pats are better. J-ville also is right there at the top also.

It could happen, not saying it wont, but I just dont see them beating out the Colts, Pats, and Jags for the AFC crown.

Would be a good match up as far as story lines go.

There as talented as anyone.

They were red hot going into the playoffs last year as well.

I just dont have the guts to predict they will beat the Colts or Pats as of today.

I'd take the Chargers over the Jags though.

I still think the Colts and Pats are better if healthy. But both teams are older so healthy may not be as likely as it is for SD.

I think the Cowboys are the only NFC team in the same league with the Pats, Colts, Chargers and Jags talentwise.

Norv Turner as a head coach in the Super Bowl - that just sounds absurd. Then again, Eli Manning as a Super Bowl MVP sounded just as dumb.

I think it's going to be Cowboys vs Jaguars.

Campo gives us the edge because he knows that secondary and we win by 31 points as Romo and T.O. hook up for 5 TD's.

Campo gets the key to the city during the parade thru the Metroplex.

Was that a pig I just saw flying by my window?

About 1/2 of the Super Bowl winning QBs have been pretty mediocre(i.e. Mark Rypien, Brad Johnson, Trent Dilfer, etc).

Ultimately, it's the COACHING that makes or breaks.

The only team I see them not beating is Indy. I feel like a good thing has finally come to an end in NE and the Jags just don't have enough to get them over the top. I'm very interested to see how the early seasons plays out and what the standings are looking like half way through the season.

Mmmmmmmmm.....maybe. I dunno, I think having either Brady or Manning gives either team a fighting chance. I think a lot of people, fans and writers alike, are picking against New England because, well, they're a bunch of pompous a-holes. On paper, they still look pretty good to me. Their defense definitely started to slow, but many here think Asante was just a system corner and they've injected young blood like Brandon Merriweather, Jerod Mayo and Shawn Crable. Nope, they're still good and Brady and Co. have won with less.

With all due respect to those that think it will be Dallas vs. San Diego, I beg to differ.
I am hoping for another Dallas vs Pittsburgh match-up. SB XLIII marks the 30 anniversary of the Steelers victory over Dallas in SB XIII. With that win, Pittsburgh became the first team to win 3 SBs. How fitting it would be for Dallas to defeat the Steelers in January to become the first team to a 6-pack (and even the score at 2-2 vs. Pitts). The only thing missing is that the game will not be played in Miami's Orange Bowl, but Tampa is atleast in the same state (considering Dallas' past trips to the Orange Bowl maybe that is not such a bad thing:) )

I know most in here probably doubt the Steelers can make it to Tampa, but how sweet it would be if they did :starspin

Can someone refresh my memory? I can't remember whether or not we won a Super Bowl with Barry Switzer as HC (and, incidentally, Aikman as QB). I could have sworn...;)

I see you included Jax in that. I'd add Pittsburg although I get a little sick typing it. I think SD is in that group though.

Except San Diego has won three straight vs the Colts.
