Some things just seem to go together. Peanut butter and jelly, cheese and crackers, and bagels and lox.
Former University of Miami, Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins coach Jimmy Johnson says he feels the same way about Super Bowls and South Florida – they just seem to go together.
Johnson, who's now a commentator on Fox, told those gathered at a Super Sunday Brunch at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino that he thinks South Florida should be on the short list to host the big bowl game in the future.
"I think it's a consensus now that I'm in the media. There are two places where you want to have a Super Bowl, either New Orleans or Miami, because of the weather and the activities," said Johnson. "(They) are really the two best places to have a Super Bowl."
Dozens of former Hurricanes and Dolphins players, including Twan Russell, attended the event hosted by the Seminole Tribe Council and its members. When asked he if ever considered returning to coaching, Johnson said right now he loved what he was doing as a commentator.
As for the future of the big games, like the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl – both here in South Florida this year, Johnson said the number speak for themselves.
"Of course the sport is growing every year. You look at the ratings numbers for NFL football and they were way up, for all of the pregame shows, for the regular games. I think it's just a fascination with the game itself for the entire country."
Johnson currently lives in Islamorada where he says he spends most of his time fishing.
