i was really mad we didn't go for it from inside the 10 with the score tied. it's pre-season. what are you gonna learn from a 25 yard field goal? and really...I thought the exact same thing when singletary went for the tie in a similar situation not too long after.

it's crazy how a game can change though. looked like we were inches away from getting a safety, or a stop deep in their territory on that third down, and then bam, pass interference, and they are off and running to victory.

.

This was covered numerous times last night, but here goes again:

The most likely reason he kicked the FG is because they wanted the FG team to get live work. You have a FG kicker who had missed two "live" one's previously, and the other factor is they are breaking in a new holder. Its much better to get this stuff ironed out in preseason than in the opening weeks of the season, when it might cost you a game.

I didnt get Singletary doing it though, as the guy who kicked their FG was waived today, and usually you dont play for a tie late in a preseason game.

I'm pretty sure had it been a regular season game, they'd have went for it. Likewise, had there been bo issues with the placekicking, they probably would have went for it.

first point...i was at the game last night, so you'll have to excuse the fact that i wasn't talking about it on the web all night. i still don't think you get much out of a 25 yard field goal. even against a live opponent. it's not like they didn't already have two FG attempts at that point.

second point....there's where I disagree with you. If it's a regular season game, you kick all the way. Hence, exactly why he should have gone for it last night.

Its not the distance of the FG that mattered, its the execution of it in a live game action. No matter how hard they try, it isnt the same in practice. And as far as I know, this is the first time McBriar has ever been a holder. He needs the work.

Its based on the situation, and for most of the night our OL was dominating their defensive front. And we've been automatic in preseason converting short yardage plays. With as good as our defense is, I have little doubt Wade would have went for it there in a regular season game.

I believe McBriar was the holder in Week 1 in 2004 and wasnt too good at it, so they went with the Romo/Henson combo (whoever was the #2 that year)going forward.
