I have no problem with Guroude, but id something happens to him we are done. Proctor should have been gone years ago, but keeps hanging around. Pouncey may not be the sexy pick, but I would feel allot better with him as a cowboy. I havent seen anything on the other centers, but hear there is a big drop off. Anyone know of a center we could grab after round one that could get the job done? Thanks Prossman

So you want to draft with our first pick a back up to a pro bowler?

Does the term Sherman Williams mean anything to you?

a back up for a pro bowl center is not needed in the first round. I'd consider it in the later rounds tho.

Closer to home. J.D Walton a Baylor Bear. A better value pick at 59.

According to Video Guru, the worst performing linemen last year were Bigg and Gurode. I watched tape of 4 games. He is correct. Please refer to Bloggingtheboys.com for reference.

Pro Bowler or not, I do not think Andre had a good year in 2009. He is inconsistent in the shotgun snap and has mental lapses too often to be an elite center. At times, he and Davis looked foolish in games when both thought the other had a defender covered and in the end, neither did their job.

We were going to draft Max Unger (C/G) last draft, but did not get the chance. If Pouncey is available at 27, we will take him without blinking, IMO.

If he and Upati are both gone, who knows.

+1

As a Baylor alum and booster I'd agree that Walton would be a good solid backup for Gurode. He could start in a year or two.

I would not refer to Blogging the boys to the guys on the espn or yahoo board

thats how bad BTB ARE

Proctor actually played some again last season...he does an adequate job at Center...he just sucks royally at OG.

Gurode being a pro bowl center tells you all you need to know about the JOKE that is the Pro Bowl. :blind:

I'd love to get Pouncey and here is why. He can play both C/G, and that means we can not only get rid of Proctor, but get a huge upgrade over him. Let's say the line stays as it is, and Kosier goes down, Pouncey takes his spot. If Gurode goes down Pouncey fills in there. If Pouncey starts at G, Kosier becomes a backup. If Gurode goes down, Pouncey moves over to center, and Kosier jumps back into G. It gives us great flexibility with our depth on the line, and better quality as well.

I agree. I would be happy if he was the pick at 27.

I don't get all the Proctor hate. Proctor is a backup center. Take a look at all the backup centers in the NFL. He's pretty much the same as what the other 31 teams have as a backup.

Proctor hasn't cost the Cowboys any games or made any major blunders.

So, why all the hate?

Obviously, the Cowboy coaches saw enough of him in practice to keep him for the past couple of years.

There were many questioning Free's ability before Columbo got hurt. And now? Only a few question his ability and he looks like starter material.

I would love to draft Iupati...But I agree, if Pouncy is available, he would be my #1 choice as well.

Iupati is a great prospect, but he is raw and will take time to develop. Pouncy is NFL ready and could forseeably challenge Gurode/Kosier for a starting job as early as this season; or at least provide much needed quality depth at both the C/G position in case of an injury.

They keep him because he can play center and guard. It frees up a roster spot. Holland is a better guard than Proctor, but would be left off the active roster because he didn't play center. And Proctor sucks, and I'm not a guy who says that a lot about players. But he scares the hell out of me when he gets into a game.

Not so fast on inside pessimisms. Pross asked a valid question with a realistic choice. Remember the term, best player available.

Pouncey would be very useful even in a developing and growth position. He is well able to serve both as the active role of guard and center...very well. That is what is protected with the pick. The ability to fill holes of injury at any of the interior positions. No, that WOULD be very smart.

Then one has the fact that Gurode is over the 30 year mark, and needs a consideration now as to future replacement. Just as backup quarterbacks and yield trade value if not needed on that team, linemen are just as valuable as well. But, if the team doesn't add value in depth, then you don't have realistic depth and quality when injury hits. Cowboy fans if any team, should know how injury strikes at the offensive line and it's depth.

If Dallas is able to get a first round talent at their pick, no, it will be a good one even if at the interior line position.

Pouncey could start at LG this year. He is a G/C. And he's a perfect fit for our OL.
