CFP thread

Classic game. I didn't like the result but it was very entertaining. I hope tonights game is this good.

Why is nobody talking about Carson Beck at the top of next year draft? He looked like Tom Brady last night getting rid of the ball quickly at times and showing patience going through his reads. I've seen him play 3 games toward the end here and I don't see a hair's difference between him and Mendoza. He was the difference last night.
because those of us that have followed his career see him is at best a light Flacco. he can get hot and he can make plays but almost as often he can stink it up.
With an extremely talented college team you can get by with that
not in the NFL

Yeah, Flacco is in the top 20 all-time for yards and TDs, so "light" is being generous.

Beck's monster NIL deal sets him up pretty well, though. 4-6 mil rangfe. smh

What surprised me is that, despite being in college for as many years as he has, he is only just 23 years old, having turned 23 in November.
I thought he was at least 25.

He'll get drafted somewhere in rounds 3-7

Teams with few exceptions are up and down
Miami had a stretch where they were not even top 25 worthy
I hadn't really watched them this year but I certainly didn't think they were this good entering the playoffs.

Yeah, there are always some ebb & flow but most really good teams are evident even when they aren't at their best.

This.

They mostly looked the part all year.
Had a brief lapse, but that's a strong, physical, and talented team.

they had a period where they simply were not playing well which happens to most teams. They ran into teams ready for them and that is why they lost

They always had the talent
they needed to get their act together at the right time

look at Ohio State; motoring along at the top and then WHAM. They went into a slump and bye bye

ohio state motors along because they don't play much competition most years.

True. Though they started out against the #1 team in Texas they clearly were not all that. Very over rated. The only really good team they played was Indiana; then Miami and lost both. BUT they had been very consistent

AND BEST OF ALL

NO SEC TEAM IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME FOR THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW

So much for that idiot claiming there should have been 7 SEC teams in the playoffs

I think when you talk about college age kids, what you want to see is a progression. Before he got injured at UGA, he was talked about as a future first round pick. He is better today than he ever was at UGA. Marching his team 75 yards in the final 3 minutes to score the go-ahead TD in a national semi-final is kinda what all the BS adds up to. He's been like this entire last half of the season and playoff. He's 6'4 220 lbs which is prototypical size. He can run as we witnessed last night.

Obviously, its always a gamble drafting a QB but isn't someone calm and cool who delivers under pressure what every team in need of a QB is looking for?

i like carson beck.
always have.
always thought he was a solid qb.
i'd love to have him here and develop behind dak.

Really question Ole Miss' strategy. Beck can be easily flustered if you bring pressure. Too often, Ole Miss rushed just three guys and that's like taking candy from a baby for a very good Miami OL. At some point, you had to say screw it, stop worrying about Toney and try to get people in Beck's face.

Given the depth of the Big 12, I still think the ACC was probably the 4th best league this year. maybe better than some thought

They did fare well in the Bowl season though
  • Miami's 3 wins vs #2 Ohio St, #6 Ole Miss, and #7 Texas AM)
  • SMU beat a good #17 Arizona team
  • Duke beat a decent Arizona St team
  • Ga Tech lost to a very good #12 BYU in the closing minutes after leading the whole game
  • NC State and Louisville won too, but vs lesser teams
It's been a good showing for them in another year where 2 of their top 3 programs (Clemson and Florida St) were down.

Not bad

I give him credit for playing well enough (I really thought he would make a mistake after OM took the lead) but he's got a track record that doesn't suggest he can elevate those around him. It's a pretty weak QB class. We might see them get pushed down the board this year.
Miami doesn't have first round draft picks at their skill positions. He is literally elevating their offense. He was certainly the best QB on the field last night.

you really think he is all that much better? He is still way too inconsistent.

I want Oregon to win but too hard to bet against Indiana. If Oregon loses then their only losses the last 3 seasons are to the teams that played in the Championship game (Washington, Ohio St, Indiana).
