As an experienced musician (bugle) I can tell you that from a technical standpoint, the girl was far better. It's a matter of preference however.

You might want to check out Elliot Fisk...since he was the guy who actually transcribed Paganini's Caprice #24 to guitar.

If it were not for him that girl would never had any sheet music to learn to play that piece at all.

as an aside, speed, without taste, means nothing.

Yngwie Malmsteen is a great example. The guy can flat out FLY on the guitar so, yep Sultan, you nailed it. But I can't listen to him for more than about 2 minutes. It's all mostly scales in different modes.

Satriani can also fly...I like him much more than Malmsteen because he pays attention to melody, etc.

Very cool, Mr. Vincent! Honestly, I just love Ricky Skaggs - he's gotta be the greatest mandolin player I ever heard of and has a habit of surrounding himself with superior talent. Just great bluegrass.
