Ok, So Q isn't coming back, but is Vinny?

The guy knows our offense and was effective in spurts last year. As a backup qb, he would be ideal.

Granted our age at qb would go up tenfold but it would improve the position tenfold as well.

IF these two young guys show nothing, i can see Parcells bringing him back.

I hope not.

Testaverde suffered enough assualts on his dignity last year..does he really want to seek further humiliation?

He's still counting about 3.5 million this year on the Jets' dead money...so it's not like $ is an issue.

He was in a bad predicament last year, with the D giving up over 400 points and the injuries on O...the inconsistent line, Eddie George, geez.

But despite the other issues, it was finally clear once and for all that VT's long decline in New York was not ALL on Paul Hackett.

His arm has considerably lost zip, even if his legs remain Bill's favorite gym story.

Since he has always needed so many reps to shake the 'rust' off, I wouldn't imagine even his year in the system would be enough to have him ready off the bench if Drew got hurt. With the better bus this year, he'd have a better shot to 'not lose games', but I fail to see anything even remotely resembling an upside with VT. He may even represent a 'threat' to Bledsoe, based on the Parcells relationship, and of course, he'd rob Henson and Rome of valuable snaps.

No, please no.

And most of all, for his own sake.

He's just too classy an individual to get used and abused like that again.

Having seen VT's performance in NY and it's fairly steep downhill slope, Bill shocked me once bringing him in....even as the "backup"... if he did it again, I'd be questioning Tuna's sanity.

I say a 20% chance at this moment.

I reserve the right to change my forecast at any time...just like the weatherman.

At this point until it is amply demonstrated that neither Romo nor Henson has a snowflakes chance in hell of being an NFL QB I will have do disagree that bringing in Vinny would improve the position. I will grant that Vinny has great heart and if he only has to play a game or two he can hold up just fine. But there are two problems with bringing in Vinny:

1) Bringing in Vinny is a complete write-off of the future.

We go back to square ONE at the QB position and we will be starting a brand new project in 2006 to play behind Bledsoe for two or three years. Parcells is not likely to start a rookie and I don't believe we will be drafting in the top 10 unless we somehow trade up.

2) If Bledsoe goes down for an extended period (more than 5 games) Vinny's arm will once again go in the tank and we will be faced with the same critical pick late in games that we were plagued with last year.

Hopefully our Defense would be strong enough to keep us in the games that Vinny would inevitably get us in trouble in. But that is a lot of pressure to put on a Defense as young as ours will be.

I am a long way from writing off either one of the young QBs we have on the team much less both of them. And bringing in Vinny would constitute a complete write-off of both of them IMO.

I think Parcells would finally go with Henson or Romo depending on what happens to Bledsoe. If the team is winning with Bledsoe only to have him go down and then see Henson and Romo look horrible for a few games, then I think the old man is back. But, I am not sure he would actually come back and play for the Cowboys considering how he was treated last year. I would not be surprised to see him refuse the offer.

If Henson struggles in preseason, I think it's already in the works. Parcells is too old to let the sesaon fall on a struggling Henson. But, if Testaverde has to be brought back this season, we may be having to start over (franchise QB wise) and hope Bledsoe can hold up a few years. Dare I mention a name that will be a free agent next offseason. It begins with Chris and ends in Simms.

I'd rather have QC back. At least he's a running threat on NFL 2k5 ... man, the guy could move like the wind and eat up first downs. LB's were no match for his speed.

Adds an entire new dimension to the game. Third and long didn't have a meaning anymore ... with QC and his legs back there, I knew I could do whatever I wanted. Eye the MLB ... if he goes back into coverage, run for first down. If he blitzes, toss a slant over the middle, and life is grand.

Too bad VT and Bledsoe have the feet of cows instead of horses.

I still maintain that he is a quality backup player. Looking at what he did last season for 15.5 games, he performed pretty well for a guy that was supposed to be the backup. It's just that, at his age and with his skillset, he should not be starting an entire season.

My problem with bringing him in would be the age. Do you just outright release a younger guy like Romo or Henson, both of whom he was a little something invested in, to bring in a one-year stop gap at the backup position?

Hed be a decent backup, but I'm not willing to give up on either Henson or Romo b/c of a bad training camp, so I hope he isn't brought back.

That's exactly the problem. I think Vinnie is probably a better backup at this point for a team still hoping to make the playoffs. However you cannot bring him here unless you are going to carry four QBs on the team which I do not see happening. The cuts will be difficult enough without forcing one more by adding a 4th QB.

That would mean a release of either Romo or Henson. And IMO it's not time to release either. We still don't know if one could be a QB for the future or at least a quality backup.

The only way I see VT here is for one of the QBs to go on IR. At that point we would have no problem adding him. In fact at that point I would be expecting Bill to call him back as a backup to either Romo or Henson. I think Vinnie would do that as a favor to Bill and to be around the game again.

This is a joke, right? Carter was no more a running threat than Troy aikman ever was. Just becuase he could outrun a Linebacker on a video game, doesn't mean he makes a pimple on an NFL's QB's as.... Besides, you have to figure out which vacant crack house he currently resides at before you could even try to contact Carter.

I've got to tell you, I really thought (and hope) you were joking when you posted that. Really.

I don't think Vinny will return, I think what we have is what we will go into the season with barring a major injury that would keep any of the 3 out for a prolonged time
