Chandler Jones

I don't get the hype on this guy. Not particularly athletic. Not super productive. Looks like younger, trimmer Greg Ellis live. I'd never play him as a 3-4 OLB.

:laugh1: First thought that came to mind when I saw him too.

If he has him rated above Ingram, he's in the minority. I've seen a number of places where he is rated around the same or slightly higher than Upshaw, though.

I like the looks of him, and he's not really climbing up draft boards lately so much as the average draftnik is just now figuring out what the guys who watch film already knew...that he's a solid first-round prospect and can get enough pass-rush that he won't make it out of the round. He could go as high as #16 to the Jets, I believe.
Mayock has him at 9 ahead of Ingram as well.

7. Mark Barron
8. Stephon Gilmore
9. Chandler Jones
11. Fletcher Cox
13. Dontari Poe
14. Shea McClellin
18. Melvin Ingram
22. Whitney Mercilus
23. Courtney Upshaw
24. David DeCastro
25. Cordy Glenn
29. Michael Brockers
30. Vinny Curry
40. Peter Konz
41. Bruce Irvin

It doesn't look like Irvin will be on the board for us at #45 if this is getting close to NFL concensus. Pass rushers keep rising as the draft approaches and he is already above our 2nd round slot on this ranking.

On the bright side, Ingram may fall to us which is good except we allegedly aren't interested in him which is bad.

Spencer signing the tag also makes first round OLB slightly less likely but so long as we haven't worked out a long-term deal it still should be on the table if the value is there.

If Barron isn't there at #14 and we don't trade down and we're not going to take an OLB it looks like it comes down to Coples or DeCastro. So it's offense versus defense, safe pick vs. bust risk and premium position versus non-premium. I hope we choose Coples and take the risk. OGs can be found anywhere in the first 3 rounds but double digit sack guys are hard to come by.

looking again you are correct. I was comparing him mostly to my pet cat, Ingram, who slaughtered the 3 cone, beating even Ware's number.

i still think Ingram goes top 10 and is the top pass rusher selected.

If this is the worst draft for pass rushers, why is everyone here hot about one in the first round? I hope the Cowboys' drafting staff is not paying attention. :)

Let's talk about a NT who pushes the center of a OL back into the QB. Best way to stop a running game is penetration into the back field. Therefore, NT is best chose on defense.

Just saying

I think people are talking about him because they think he can gain another 20-25 pounds of muscle and play 3-4 DE.

That's like saying Dre Kirkpatrick should bulk up to be a linebacker.

Jones fits best as a 4-3 DE IMO. If you draft him as a 3-4 OLB, you better have him rushing the passer every snap.

I dont think this is a bad draft for pass rushers at all.
You dont have that one guy with zero question marks but you have tons of depth and quality.

Upshaw and Ingram have short arms.
Coples has motor questions.
Cox is so big he is more DT than 4-3 DE.
Perry lacks agility.
Mercilus is only an average athlete.
End of the day though these guys can all get after the passer.

JPP was raw, Sapp was a druggie, Ware had limited college production and was small... so many guys have knocks until they take the field.

Trust your scouts and if you can get a pass rusher at 14 take him and be very, very happy.
