There’s a new addition to the PFT family.

After weeks of careful thought and deliberation regarding the right process for filling a lingering vacancy, a recent staffing decision made by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram brought all thought and deliberation to an immediate end. The moment Charean Williams became available was the moment we knew we had our next hire.

Charean has accepted an offer to join PFT. She starts on Monday, June 5.

She has covered the NFL for 23 seasons, 17 of them with the Star-Telegram and six before that at the Orlando Sentinel.

Charean has served as a selector for the Pro Football Hall of Fame for 11 years, becoming the first woman to earn that distinction. She also was the first female president of the Pro Football Writers of America, with a two-year stint covering the 2009-10 seasons.

In all, Charean has covered 23 Super Bowls and seven Olympic Games.

Congratulations, Charean!!!! :clap::clap::clap:

I guess this is supposed to be amusing.

But sports journalism is in the toilet now and will just get worse.

You want to talk about "evil media" that has "agendas", wait until you get a load of the next generation.
I've not said anything about evil media. And I taught adjunct J-school courses until 2 years ago so I've got a pretty good idea about the next generation.

I've also heard about the demise of newspapers for 15 years. I'm not saying there haven't been a bunch of changes and that staffs aren't much thinner, but there's also been plenty of adaptation. There is still opportunity for good journalism out there. And the business model isn't perfect, but it's getting closer.

This isn't a comment on DMN per se, but the sky isn't falling more than it's changing colors.

So in a previous life you were Captain Smith of the Titanic

If that is too hard to think on try Kevin Bacon in Animal House

She better up her snark game going to PFT... and get rid of any lingering Cowboy fandom she might have.

Interesting move. I am not a Florio fan but do check out PFT regulary during season. They do not break much news but sort of re-package news already reported typically. I wonder if they are looking to build their reporting chops with this move rather than commenting on already reported stories.
