They want a wr and a safety. So maybe if merriweather, bowe or nelson are there at 22 jerry can call aj smith make something happen.

Seems to me the chargers dont appear that late picks are going to help the team or possibly not make the team so they could be a perfect partner.

22 down to 30 is a 160 point difference.

san diego's 3rd, 5th and 6th would make that difference.

That would be interesting, having another third and 5th would be great.

That would put us behind Baltimore who could very well take Spencer if that is who Dallas moved back to get. Not sure that would be a good fit since most of the WR's, DE/OLB's and DB's will be off the board. I really can't see Dallas going OL in the 1st since Jerry has never done it in the 18 yrs. he has owned the team. That marks off Grubbs and Blalock at #30 for Dallas.

There is a chance though, if merriweather is the guy they want he would be there at 30 and you get your guy and three more picks, that allows you to take a qb in the 2nd and for sure in the third and get a lineman or two.

Maybe even woodley with that extra third.

The extra third allows you to take a chance with the 2 or the first 3.

I would do that in a heartbeat... Depending on who's there, of course.

yeah, i have them trading with Dallas in my mock...

I think if Ginn falls, they'd be all over us. Imagine Ginn in that offense.

I'm hoping it happens and we trade with em, even though Ginn's my favourite guy in the draft

The Chargers do not have a 6th round draft choice this year. It was given to the Titans for Volek. We have two #5 though but I do not see that happening.

I'd want a 3rd & 4th for our pick--nothing later. We already got 2 6ths &
3 7ths to use.

We don't need more picks. We have 10! We need to draft starters even if they don't start immediately.

When you get past the third round your success rate falls off very quickly. Even the third is no where near the success rate of a two.

Why would you want to move out of the top forty players to have a chance at drafting someone with a 10% chance of making the team? Or draft a player who will give you a much smaller number of positive plays per start? Or however you want to look at it.

That's not how AJ Smith rolls. I'd find another speculative trading partner, prolly. They may be talented through and through, but he does not like to trade up.

Plus, WR and S are probably the two deepest positions in the draft this year. AJ Smith doesn't need to move up to address those positions. If they're not there in the 1st round he can either reach for a guy he likes, trade back or wait it out because there will be good players there in other rounds.

Not unless we're going to package them to move back up. What the heck do we need 13 picks for -- in order to have the best practice squad ever?

I'm with you. We got too many dern pix as it is. Trading up, maybe, but the circumstances look pretty limited. Let's trade em out to next year, that's what I say.

I am only passing along an article i read in the san diego paper. Excuse me.

and by the way, if your going to respond like this, please explain to me how moving down from 22 to 30 and gaining another third in the process is losing out on the top 40 players. I cant wait to hear that. Cause um picking at 30, well your still in there...

.

Yeah I know, I am just passing along what smith said thats all, and I dont see new england, baltimore or chicago doing it either. really the only two teams that might want to move up are kc and the jets and it would have to be something they really want.

I cannot wait until Saturday and stop all this hype

what hype I am just posting an article in the san diego paper. I wont be posting anymore articles or Columns I read though.

very true, that is why I said possible trading partner. I dont think it will happen but I was just viewing it from the aspect of san diego falling in love with one guy and Dallas having maybe 5 players they view evenly at that point.

On what SP and IR said... The guy just let Brees go for nothing, fired his good head coach so late that all the candidates to replace him had been taken, and -- to top it all off -- hired Norv. I wouldn't put anything past him.

K. They won't pay people, and he is an egomaniac....but they don't trade up.

But then you threw the "hired Norv" in there. So I can't know. I do know that I want us to either stay put or make a move WAY up. No trading down. Bah, it's for the birds.

(^^^^^time for some thicker skin theebs....sheesh, man. ;))

what do you mean? I am just simply pointing out that I am not declaring anything, just simply posting an article I read in the other paper and saying maybe san diego falls in love with a safety or wr.

whats the big deal. Is everything a complaint on this site?

I'm just sayin - the guy was just giving his opinion on your post and the article you posted, and then you go with the "I won't be posting anything else I read if that's how you're gonna respond."

Seems a little overdramatic, that's all. We're all just posting our thoughts. I didn't see anything in jobberone's response that required a "Taking my ball and going home" retort. JMO, of course. ;)
