hasn't been mentioned but he is a free agent and the Raiders will not be able to keep him since they are plenty over the cap. How does the board feel about picking him up? Either by moving him to FS or moving Henry to FS and him at CB? I like Henry at CB but I think Charles Woodson would add size and speed to the field. I think our secondary is our weakness on D. I like him better than someone like Law who is older slower and would probably want more $. We need soem size and speed back there.

I really think our D Line is set for at least the next 4 years with Canty, Spears and Ferguson not to mention Ratliff, Pepper and hopefully Willie Blade who I like very much.

It will be easier to find a starting linebacker or hoping Burnett will make a full recovery, than holding out hope that a FS as good as Huff will fall to us or that Davis develops. Even if we were to draft someone of Huff's skills we would have to hope at pick 50some to pick up a stud OT or OG. Taking care of the secondary would allow us to take the best player on the board be it G,T, or if by miracle a stud MLB like Ahmad Brooks were to fall in our lap at 18.

Thoughts?

I rather draft a safety....
We now have a talented / veteran secondary and we could develope a young guy that will be here longer also cheaper

I really don't think Woodson wants to play FS. He wants the money that comes from being a corner.

Uh, no. This smells of "jump on 'name FA' itis."

Draft a guy. That's how you build a team.

How much are they over. Last I heard, the salary cap is increasing quite a bit next year anyway, so they may be able to keep him.

Currently, I think they stand at 30 million over. He's a goner.

Wow....Yeah, I'd say that they will lose quite a few players. The new coach going into this situation isn't exactly going into a good one.

firstly he would NEVER moev to FS even if he was 35. Secondly this guy is such a waste of talent its disgusting. I live near Oakland, i've seen this guys whole career. he turned into a superstar and has the biggest ego ever. All he cares about is looking good in a suit, and trying to be a moviestar. He doesnt care about football and it shows on the field. Plus he gets injured every year. Raiders wont resign him, but I have no idea where h goes. Maybe to a desperate team like the Rams.

I like Chavous, but wouldn't really consider him "young" -- he turned 30 today.

Yes, but I could see that addition. Do a 2 year/option for 3 with him.

I still want to draft a guy...

Woodson hasn't played well in the last few years. Oakland was not good at defending against either of the top two recievers all year. And it wasn't because of the line. They ranked 10th in adjusted sack numbers.

OK, OK....I'm gonna say it.

If (and only if) we are looking to take a vet CB and convert him to a FS, Ty Law would be a much better fit.

There's been specualtion that the Jets aren't keeping him (big off-season bonus due).

*ducking

I think it's a guarantee he's a goner, if I remember correctly they made him a franchise player last year for the second season in a row, thinking he was going to work a long-term deal but instead he accepted the franchise tag and thus cost them around $10 million to the cap. Supposedly the old man in the jump suit was anything but pleased with Woodson's action.

We need to spend a good amout again this offseason on FA's IMHO. We are a good team but with a few pieces we could be a very very good team competing for SB's. The window is closing with Drew's age being so high. He might have 2 or 3 years left in his body. Who's to say he doesn't retire after Parcells leaves? Unless we hit a Big Ben in the draft or a Delhome in FA it will take time after he leaves to replace him. I love the whole draft a FS and let him grow with the team and that would be good if our starting qb wasn't 34. By the time he got pretty good, (assuming he's not a bust) we need a new QB.

We need to cut or trade if we can a few players like Glover and Ellis and Singleton. Then sign whoever becomes avalible in FA like a Hutchinson and Bentley or both if possible !! But in all honesty we'd be lucky if we could nab one. One of them and a WR like a TO or Wayne could make a huge difference on offense. After all Key is getting up there too and if I remember correctly wants a rasie?

If we had Flozell all year we are in the playoffs now and talking about how we can beat anyone in the NFC. And we'd be being honest not homers.

We add a vet FS and a kicker and we are greatly improved for next season. But with 15 million + and two picks in the top 50 we should be able to get a K FS WR and OL that are all good and that can take us to the next level.

Please let's keep larry though ppl and hope he restructures. :)

Id like to see Bentley signed if he isnt franchised. I dont know who else the saitns could franchise. our top fa need should be kicker. most of the other stuff can be had in the draft.

...if Woodson is prepared to come to grips mentally with extending his career through a position change.

It's one of the saddest things in this league that a guy has in his mind an skewed sense of his ability when a move from corner to free would extend their careers and possibly give themselves a new life.

If he was prepared to make the move he may find success at the position. As long as he can read defences.
