Hard to believe SF is low, with them scoring 28 and 26 the first two weeks.

Points per drive is a much more reasonable metric.

If you really wanted to get a outlook on the match-up, then take our points per drive allowed, and weigh both results against their previous competition.

I'm kinda working on something like that now.

When will offenses and defenses stop being ranked by yardage? That's so violently stupid, it hurts.

I agree. If a team plays great between the 20 but is not putting up points those yards mean very little.

General, if you tell me the turnover difference and 3rd down percentages of both teams, I can tell you who won. The rest of the stats are dependent on so many variables, they're virtually irrelevant, especially in a league as close as the NFL.

for the most part that is true but in all honesty the only stat that matters is points. It was settling for 3 FG that cost us the NY game and when push comes to shove the only stat that matters is points scored and points given up

Please include also % of times a team scores per drive.
Dallas scores FG's, Chris Jones does not punt until the 2nd half. He has 6 punts this year. Avg is 48.2.

Dallas may be lower in points per drive, but higher in scoring %.

The scoring percentage is a factor in points per drive. If two teams both have 10 drives and one scores 100% of the time but only 3 pts per drive (which is actually high) they have 30 pts. If the other team only scores 50% of the time but has a 3.5 points per drive average, they got 35 points. Usually, the drives per team are equal or with one team having 1 more. If a team scores more often, it will increase their points per drive, as will scoring TDs.

Yes.
I guess I was thinking more in terms of TD's vs. FG's.

Unfortunately, field goals are almost like punts these days in the NFL.

In college, a field goal is like a turnover.

I agree. This team should be 3-1 after 4 games.
We better be, because games against Cincy and Aaron Rodgers dont make me happy to think about. No matter what you say about the GB offense right now, Rodgers has and will carve our defense up. Even with Lawrence back.
