I would have liked to have thought a game with more carries by Choice was because coaches and front office had finally seen the obvious (that Barber is basically done) but apparently that isnt the case:
Jones by the way went 100% for todays practice.
It will take getting rid of this coaching staff (
Garrett, Phillips, and
Peete) in order to cut Barber. The next head coach will make this move with ease, imso. It will be a layup. You simply can't construct your roster recklessly and expect it not to come back to bite you, by paying
Barber and
Williams a combined
$ 20.7 million dollars in 2010. Those resources could have been used in other areas of the team, and the draft picks were lost.
Choice deserves Barber's carries (IMO) and giving
Barber a
$ 4 million dollar roster bonus after his
8 carry, 14 yard playoff performance was dubious at best. It was plain not smart, and there was plenty of film on Barber, too. The coaches/organization miscast him or over rated
Barber and the organization paid him more than
Frank Gore and ran him into the ground.
Bill Parcells knew what Barber really was and used him accordingly.
Jerry Jones had leverage on Barber when he drafted Jones and Choice, but he didn't use it. Moreover,
Felix Jones rushed
79 times for
475 yards and
2 TDs during his last 6 games of 2009 and was the third leading rusher in the playoffs.
I guess the organization didn't look at the second half of the 2007 Divisional Game where Barber didn't look like the same guy in the
second half. It's hard for me to believe that
Jason Garrett's hands are clean in regards to Barber's ridiculous contract and the
Roy Williams fiasco of a trade. Where was the voice of reason?
Garrett and
Peete have basically run Barber into the ground. He probably will not be around much longer in the NFL.
Cutting Barber before the 2010 season was a layup, but the organization clanked it off the rim. Then, they didn't trade him and get some type of compensation. That pick appears to be a top of the round pick, now. This team needs players....
You are right. It is the horrendous blocking.
Broaddus would replace
Gurode and
Davis first, and you know how bad
Colombo is at this point in his career. Colombo should have been replaced before the season. Kosier is set to walk and has been hurt two of the past three years. When he gets hurt, he stays hurt. Playing him at center appears to be a bad mistake. That is where he was hurt in camp.
Felix Jones' first double digit carry game this year came with
Kyle Kosier in the lineup. Jones rushed for
109 yards on only
15 carries and totaled
126 total yards of offense against a good Titans rush defense. Furthermore, there wasn't much running room in that game for Jones. Jones had a 34 yard run in that game, and he had just a little crease to break free. You saw him get outside and use his great speed.
The second level blocking on this team is atrocious, and
Gurode,
Davis, and
Colombo loose at the point of attack consistently. Therefore, the linebackers just sit in the hole and tee off.
Davis is a whiff master who can't get a push in the run game.
Colombo is a turn style who can't get a push in the run game or move anymore.
Kosier returns this week, so we will see if it gets better.
Choice gets a good week to play if he plays, because running left is your best chance to succeed. That is where Free and Kosier live.
