He wasn't going to make the team but could have found a way onto the practice squad.

Bad break (no pun intended) for him.

I thought same thing, PS at best.
Not sure if they will do a waive / injured on him, or just put him on IR. Depending on how they think he will contribute next year.

Brown needs a lot of time in the weight room, as well as a crash course on how to play special teams to have a chance in this league.

That's the best thing that could of happened for Chris Brown, as far as the Cowboys are concerned.. Brown isn't ready to compete with the loaded WR position and more than likely wouldn't have made the team. He's a developmental player though, and would have likely made another team that is thin at that position. But next year, Williams, Butler, and Street (if he's even on the team) will be up for new contracts. Dallas can stash him now and give Brown more time studying the route tree and weight room.

I wouldn't call the WR position loaded.

You have one stud - Bryant
One slot guy - Beasley
One enigma - Williams

And then a guy people gush about that hasn't really shown much at all in Butler and a guy that people aren't even sure is going to be on the team in Street.

Once Bryant went out last year with an injury, you saw how limited this group was. It's very top heavy in terms of ability.

And note, I wasn't trying to make the case that Brown should have been in contention for a roster spot.

Just pointing out that the WR position isn't as loaded as people think.

Jacksonville has a loaded WR corps IMO. The Skins, if Doctson is all that, has a loaded WR corps potentially.

I doubt Chris Brown would have made the active roster anyhow, unless it was a PS spot. Even then, there's room for doubt. His ability to gain separation wasn't what it might best have been to make him one of the 53 actives, imho.

Not sure if he'll fit if Andy Jones doesn't make the team. Jones will get it (unless he gets picked up).

That's "loaded" on CZ :omg:

Maybe the horrible QB play contributed to that also.

Partly.

But this WR corps isn't as deep as people think. They are largely average once you take Bryant out of the mix.

Compare that to say Jacksonville. If they lose Hurd, they still have Robinson and Marquise Lee, for example.

Yeah you have Bryant and a lot of average WR's. Tony has made a career of making average WR's look good.

Our WR corps is so average beyond Bryant that I was totally on board using a 2nd round pick on a WR if a guy like Treadwell or Doctson fell to that spot.
