Let me see, 8 million a year for a backup running back when we don't even run the ball enough to justify a real number one and just hired historically the least run heavy Offensive Coordinator in the game.

Furthermore, Tennessee has already said they will cut him if they can't find a suitor. If you want him, wait till he hits the open market.

Either way, no thanks.

for a 4th and a sizable pay cut, sure. Big play speed, experienced and has been reasonably healthy, the change in scenery and a more complete offense might be just what he needs.

4th rounder and a paycut, yeah. I don't understand why people are saying no for a 4th... or would they prefer Jerry to waste multiple 4ths until he finds that bargain guy who can hold up for a little while? CJ would easily be better than any of the back-ups we have right now.

Do you remember how many times we ran the ball last season? His problem with the Titans is they don't run the ball enough. He is going to come here and back up a guy who doesn't get enough carries? How does that make any sense. Also, if we aren't paying Jared Allen 10 million at a position of extreme need, then we aren't paying a running back who has lost a step 8 million.

This is just Madden generation mentality.

Not sure I would want to lose a 4th this year, it is a deep draft. Chances are, he gets cut anyways then kick the tires............if he comes relatively cheap.

I would just go younger and cheaper, running isn't the priority on our offense.

We have him on the team....another player and name...but basically the same guy...now. Johnson was a 1/2 step faster once.

There are supposedly a bunch of teams interested.
I fine if Dallas stays away though. Plenty of RB possibilities in the later rounds, and at very low cost.

McFadden just got a 1 yr 4 mill (if incentives reached) contract with the Raiders, so that's part of the market; Sproles got a 3 yr/10.5 mill/5.5 guaranteed); I wouldn't want those deals or close to it for CJ, draft pick or not. Saying we have to give up a draft pick spoils the idea completely. We've got a lot of day 3 picks, I'm sure one of them will be used in a mold of RB Linehan desires for his scheme.

After pondering it I might be open to it. Key is his willingness to scrap his old contract and do one that is cap friendly to us (like Sproles deal - that's terminable after one year with little dead money, but only a hit of about 2.5 mill this year.) Game changer. If he swings a game or two in our favor with some game changing plays, that's money well spent.

Haha.... by paycut he does not mean a significant paycut . I assure you this.

He is gonna get cut if there is no trade, so it's going from not having a job to now getting paid. That said, we may be best off waiting for that to happen.

When he was in the draft hardly anyone around here wanted him because he "hadn't played against tough enough competition in college."
Now, he is too old.
He has 2-3 good years left in him. And he isn't hurt regularly like Murray (odds are Murray will be hurt again this season).
I'd get him if I could. He is a playmaker, a difference maker, and this team doesn't have near enough of them.

Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?

Keep our picks and wait for him to be released, the Titans are not going to pay him $8 mill this year

As a practical matter, I think we - OK, arguably - have only have one NFL caliber running back, so Chris Johnson would be a great addition. The problem is if the Titans release him, another team will almost certainly be willing to pay him more than we can afford.

Would be quite an upgrade over Phillip Tanner as far as roster spots go.
