I was surprised to hear Ciskowski on Norm's show yesterday say ....

When asked who the surprise guys were among the fringe/UDFA type players this camp, Ciskowski didn't hesitate. He said there are three guys that have turned heads:

1. Brandon Magee
2. Jakar Hamilton
3. Jeff Heath

And said all three have a good chance to make the 53 because of their most excellent potential on special teams.

No mention of Eric Rogers. No mention of Tanney (but Ciskowski might have taken Norm's question to mean only 2013 rookie-types not one-year street vets etc.)

Unfortunately the Ticket didn't put the interview on their podcast.

(OT, can anybody tell me how to do a "search" of the message boards in this new site format? Thanks in advance.)

Neither have I, which is why I posted this. I hadn't heard anything on Hamilton either. Guys like Broaddus haven't said a word about them .... More reason to watch the game this weekend.

Jakar Hamilton has made very few plays in practice so far but he hasn't gotten many reps due to the depth at safety. Preseason games will be important for him b/c he does have the talent. I hope we can sneak him on the PS.

Maybe they are hiding there "love" for Rogers in case they want to stash him on the P.S.

Usually UDFAs make a team based on their ability to contribute on special teams. It doesn't surprise me in the least that some of the players we haven't heard much about as is relates to their normal positions are leading candidates to make the squad as UDFAs.

I would think a couple of these guys will end up on the practice squad and not the final roster.

With the defensive line getting banged up some I wouldn't be surprised if an extra DL or two were added to the final roster for the first game or two of the regular season.

If Heath or Hamilton are so good at ST, I would hope that leads to possibly cutting McCray.

Agreed.

I'm not a McCray fan. He doesn't have the physical skills to play in the secondary. And with some new talent at safety along with a couple linebackers who can run (thereby not needing McCray in "nickel" or "dime") I'm thinking his spot on the roster gets "churned".

Yeah, because we'd know about it but someone whose job it to scout player that might be cut wouldn't

I use Google to search most web sites. If you have not done so like this then give it a try. Here is an example of doing a google search for this exact thread.

Unfortunately the Ticket didn't put the interview on their podcast.

The UnTicket has each show in it's entirety in their uSave.it section, so you should be able to go to their website and listen to Norm's show from yesterday and hear the entire interview.

Haven't really heard anything about Heath in the practice reports, same for Hamilton. I know the team was high on Hamilton in particular as an undrafted free agent, hopefully he will show up in the games. Magee we have heard of him doing good things.

Broaddus said Hamilton has actually taken a step back in TC.

I don't know that any of these 3 make the final roster. Maybe PS guys.
Very possibly a BP type answer here. I.E. giving you nothing but smoke.

As for McCray he is what he is but I wouldn't discount his value. There is a spot on the team for its best ST coverage guy.

Agree with your agreement. McCray is a special teams tackler who has proven to be a complete liability otherwise.

And given his bloated salary on top of it, I also hope the roster spot gets churned.

Yep, free agent rookie that can play ST and maybe develop into a starter over a guy that will never be anything more than a ST ace.
